Job summary

Job description

  • Support school leaders and school-level special programs staff with compliant implementation of programs for students eligible under IDEA or Section 504
  • Provide technical assistance and training to school-level special programs staff
  • Conduct regular audits of student documents and school compliance
  • Train and coach school staff on documentation practices, specially designed instruction, and program supports and services
  • Assist schools with team meetings and parent communication
  • Design and facilitate professional development for school-level special programs staff
  • Train regular education staff on implementation of program supports and services in general education
  • Lead training and compliance related to English learner programming
  • Monitor instruction in special education classrooms and coach special programs staff
  • Monitor special education, English Learner, and 504 program guidelines and services
  • Assist with private school student placements
  • Assist with contracts reviews for special services vendors
  • Consult with school leaders on staffing and resources and support selection of special programs staff and teachers
  • Prepare and submit reports and records required by government agencies
  • Monitor the IDEA grant, special education funding, budgets, expenditures, and maintenance of effort
  • Oversee documentation compliance through audits of evaluation reports, IEPs, and 504 plans
  • Serve as system administrator for eIEP-Pro
  • Evaluate special programs policies, procedures, and practices and recommend improvements
  • Prepare regular reports for the Director of ESS
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Experienced special educator and administrator
  • Knowledge of general terminology for compliance and education industries
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements in public schools
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure language and adoption and implementation strategies
  • General knowledge of school operations
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of effective project management
  • Knowledge of special education and principles of specially designed instruction
  • Extensive and proven knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Knowledge of English Learner requirements in Arizona
  • Knowledge of data management systems
  • Knowledge of federal grants and state education funding/school finance
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret statutes, regulations, and agency guidance
  • Ability to use independent judgement and make sound decisions while meeting time sensitive deadlines
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple competing tasks, efficient and able to work independently and think critically and strategically
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and provide insights and recommendations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student, employee, and company information
  • Ability to manipulate and interpret large data sets
  • Proven ability to provide effective professional development to large and small audiences of adult learners
  • Proficiency in SharePoint and Microsoft applications
  • 2+ years teaching special education or providing related services
  • 2+ years administering special education programs and overseeing special education compliance
  • 2+ years documenting policies and procedures
  • 1+ year teaching or administering an English learner program
  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field
  • Current special education certification preferred or combination of special education experience and other valid educator or service provider certification
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Preferred: PowerSchool experience
  • Preferred: experience working directly with regulatory agencies on special education compliance
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience with IDEA Basic grant processes
  • Preferred: e-IEP Pro experience
  • Must have personal transportation
  • Ability to regularly visit schools throughout Arizona
  • Occasional out-of-state travel may be required
