Job summary

Albertsons Companies is seeking an Assistant Deli Manager to support the Deli Manager in overseeing daily operations, food production, merchandising, and customer service in the Randalls Deli. You will assist with hiring, training, scheduling, food safety compliance, and achieving sales and profitability goals while delivering a high-quality shopping experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous deli, food service, restaurant, or grocery experience required.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, merchandising, inventory control, food safety, and sanitation practices.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate employees in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily Deli Department operations.
  • Ensure deli products are properly prepared, packaged, stocked, rotated, and merchandised.
  • Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, and shrink control.
  • Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional displays are accurate and executed according to company standards.
  • Monitor department cleanliness, organization, and equipment maintenance.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming shopping experience.
  • Assist customers with product selection, meal solutions, catering options, and special orders.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Promote deli products, seasonal offerings, and department programs.
  • Build customer loyalty through product knowledge and service excellence.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching department associates.
  • Provide daily direction and support to team members.
  • Help create schedules that support operational needs and service levels.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and customer service expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Monitor proper product handling, preparation, labeling, storage, and rotation procedures.
  • Conduct routine quality and freshness inspections.
  • Assist with department audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of department equipment.
  • Assist in achieving department sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink objectives.
  • Monitor inventory levels and product movement to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Support waste reduction and expense control initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy and controlling operating costs.
  • Contribute to plans that improve department performance and profitability.

Position Purpose

The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing all aspects of Deli Department operations to achieve sales, profitability, customer service, and operational objectives. Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
  • Assist in managing daily Deli Department operations.

  • Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments and around food preparation equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate slicers, ovens, fryers, mixers, and other department equipment.
Work Environment
  • Retail grocery Deli Department environment.
  • Frequent exposure to hot surfaces, refrigerated areas, food preparation equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
