Job Description

Mission Statement: Everett Athletics strives to educate and inspire student athletes to be the BEST version of themselves!

As an Assistant Coach you are directly responsible to both the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach. The coach of an individual sport must realize that any activity sponsored by EHS Athletics is part of the total program offered by EHS. Individuals in charge of such activities must utilize sound educational principles and goals if athletics are to be a worthwhile part of the overall school program. Some of the duties of the coach shall include:

  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Maintain accurate records of team lists, injury reports, scores of games, stats (report to athletic office and head coach), incident reports, physical examinations.
  • Be available during the entire school year to lend assistance in guidance and counseling to his/her team members, i.e. scholastic achievement, college entrance, citizenship.
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the EHS Student Handbook.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility of the area in which the assigned sport is played at all times that students are present.
  • Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached. This includes supervision, always, of the weight room, locker room and shower areas until the area is secured before and after practices and contests and bus trips.
  • Enforce discipline and always encourage sportsmanship like behavior. These standards are those set down by the Principal and Athletic Department.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their sport.
  • Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures daily.
  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of EHS athletics.
  • Work with community members who are involved in youth sports in order to encourage the young women and young men to continue to participate in sports at the high school level.
  • Assists in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment. Coaches are responsible for equipment not returned by his team members at the designated time.
  • Organize and post a daily schedule for the team.
  • Performs all other duties as the principal and or athletic director may deem to be in the best interest of the sport, pupil, and school.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous cross country coaching experience is desirable.
  • Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.
  • Knowledge of cross country and its rules, and ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.
  • Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues, and other citizens.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college preferred.
  • CPR Certification
  • Completion of the MIAA Coaches Education Class and/or other requirements by the MIAA preferred.

REMUNERATION:

Total maximum stipend not to exceed $3,744.88.
