Wayne County NY seeks a County Attorney to represent the County in legal proceedings and to provide legal advice to County department heads and employees. The role includes prosecuting Juvenile Delinquency and PINS in Family Court and representing the County in employee contractual grievances and disciplinary proceedings.
The attorney will work with the County Attorney in all areas of legal representation for the County, draft/convey legal documents, interview witnesses, and prepare case
The work involves responsibility for representing the County in legal proceedings, civil litigation and various administrative hearings, as well as providing legal advice to County Department Heads, and employees. The work additionally includes prosecuting Juvenile Delinquency and Persons In Need of Supervision Proceedings in Family Court, and representing the County in employee contractual grievances and disciplinary proceedings. Work is performed in conjunction with and under the supervision of the County Attorney. The incumbent works with the County Attorney in all areas of legal representation for the County. Does related work as required.
Thorough knowledge of County Law, New York State General Municipal Law, New York State Civil Service Law and rules; thorough knowledge of laws pertaining to contracts, petitions and other aspects of general legal work; Good knowledge of the rules of proceeding and evidence used in juvenile Family Court proceedings, administrative tribunals, contractual arbitration hearings, and other legal proceedings; Working knowledge of parliamentary procedures used at meetings of the Board of Supervisors; Ability to understand and interpret complex oral instructions and/or written directions; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Ability to reason quickly and accurately in stressful situations; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to efficiently gather facts through interview, research and investigation; Ability to analyze and interpret laws and legal documents; Ability to prepare and deliver presentations in a clear, concise and articulate manner.
Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York New York State. Municipality legal experiencepreferred but not required.
