Job summary

Mace is seeking a Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor to support cost management and procurement for complex projects. You will work with stakeholders to develop cost plans, monitor expenditure, and help prepare valuations and final accounts.

The role emphasizes collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to value management while supporting a transition to net zero carbon. Hybrid working options are available.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Strong communication with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal, report-writing, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in cost management, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and implementing improved working practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Experience supporting and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist feasibility studies and procurement reports.
  • Apply value management techniques at project outset.
  • Provide estimating and cost planning support for final cost plan.
  • Involve procurement stages from prequalification to contract prep.
  • Assist contract documents, valuations and handling variations.
  • Support cost control and reporting during contracts.
  • Prepare client financial reports on required formats/frequencies.
  • Identify costs for design changes and construction activities.
  • Assist with certificates of completion and final accounts.
  • Assist with certificates for defects and final completion.
  • Assist in delivering cost management services.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on team/regional strategy delivery.
  • Guide and coach junior staff.
  • Support net-zero carbon transition in delivery.

You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Assists with feasibility studies, procurement strategies and contract selection, assisting in the production of procurement reports.
  • Aids the application of the value management techniques at the outset of a project.
  • Provides estimating and cost planning support in production of the final cost plan.
  • Involves in the procurement process, ensuring that all stages including prequalification, enquiry, analysis, selection and contract preparation are performed effectively.
  • Supports the preparation of the contract documents, warranties, bonds and licenses, preparation of valuations of the work carried out and adjust variations in accordance with the terms of the contract.
  • Works with the Cost Consultant to provide cost control and reporting services during the contract.
  • Analyses and supports in the preparation of financial reports for the client in the form and at the frequency required.
  • Contributes to identifying all costs associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities and client charges.
  • Assists on the issue of certificates of practical completion and assist with agreement of final accounts.
  • Supports the Cost Consultant on issue of certificate of making good defects and final completion in accordance with any requirements relating to completion, submissions and approvals.
  • Provides assistance and support to Cost Consultant and/or team/s in the delivery of cost management services.
  • Develops working relationships with (range of) internal stakeholders.
  • Works with team members providing operational delivery of team/regional strategy etc.
  • Provides guidance & coaching to more junior roles.
  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
You’ll Need to Have
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, or equivalent (or currently working towards one).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal, report-writing, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in cost management, procurement, and contract administration.
