Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe's core mission, vision, and values.
  • Prepare breakfast, snack and lunch in compliance with CACFP daily requirements.
  • Serve meals family style in accordance with Sacred Children Care Center.
  • Employ sanitation, cleanliness, and food storage techniques endorsed by CACFP.
  • Take daily temperatures of the fridge, food before it is sent to classrooms and keep records according to CACFP regulations.
  • Complete production records detailing amounts of food, daily counts, ingredients used.
  • Weekly cleaning checklist including fridges/freezers, dishwasher, stove and oven.
  • Monitor food inventory and organize pantry.
  • Notify supervisor of safety concerns, supply shortages, menu changes and monthly reports.

Assistant Cook (Sacred Children Care Center)
Reports to: Head Cook
Salary (Grade): $17.81 (Grade 12-E)
Status: Reg. FT (Non-Exempt)
Location: Human Services Department located in Winnebago, Nebraska
Job Purpose & Position Overview:

Under the supervision of Head Cook, this position will assist Head Cook in complying the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements and Nebraska Childcare Center Licensure. This position will assist in cooking, cleaning, sanitizing and preparing meals for the Sacred Children Care Center. Holds responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, dishwashing area, and all necessary utensils.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe's core mission, vision, and values.
  • Will prepare breakfast, snack and lunch in compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program daily requirements.
  • Will serve meals family style in accordance with Sacred Children Care Center.
  • Will employ sanitation, cleanliness, and food storage techniques endorsed by the CACFP.
  • Will take daily temperatures of the fridge, food before it is sent to the classrooms and keep records according to the CACFP regulations.
  • Must have a physical examination and a tuberculin test annually.
  • Signs all grocery receipts after verifying items listed.
  • Will perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Will present a professional image in the food preparation areas at all times.
  • Attend training as requested or required.
  • Plans to attend staff meetings and program coordinators meetings as scheduled.
  • Understands and follows the chain of command of the Human Services Department and of the Tribal Organization.
  • Understands and adheres to the Policies and Procedures of Sacred Child Care Center, Winnebago Human Services Department and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion. Information about all children, families, and Human Services related activities must be kept confidential.
  • Present a positive image for the Human Services Department and Sacred Children Care Center in the community.
  • Will complete production records at the time of preparation, detailing the amounts of food prepared, daily counts, ingredients used.
  • Weekly cleaning check list completed included cleaning fridges/ freezers, dishwasher, stove and oven.
  • Food inventory monitored closely, organization of pantry.
  • Classrooms are equipped with the proper materials; utensils needed for the meal served according to the menu.
  • Notify supervisor of any safety concerns, supply shortage, menu changes and monthly report.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

Training Requirements:
  • Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) annual training requirements include meal pattern compliance, meal counting procedures, recordkeeping, monitoring requirements, reimbursement system, claim submission and review procedures and mandatory Civil Rights training.
  • Must be willing to attend meetings and training as requested.
Physical Requirements:
  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.
Language Requirements:
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Certificates, Licenses & registrations:
  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
