Agency Insurance Company of Maryland is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing financial operations for our Maryland-based auto insurer. You will ensure GAAP and SAP reporting accuracy, drive process improvements, and supervise staff with a focus on timeliness and integrity.

The role emphasizes coordination of financial statements, RBC considerations, and regulatory filings, including NAIC statements, while collaborating with actuarial and underwriting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 years in a senior accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close under GAAP and SAP.
• Prepare NAIC Annual Statement and related statements.
• Manage investment accounting and reinsurance accounting.
• Lead general ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
• Mentor accounting staff and implement process improvements.
• Support internal and external audits and regulatory compliance.
