Job summary

Pratt Industries seeks an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in daily accounting activities, including A/R, A/P, GL, and inventory, with a hands-on approach to improve financial processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Highly skilled with financial and numeric data.
  • Proficient in Excel spreadsheets.
  • 2+ years accounting experience.
  • 3+ years in a general accounting support function (AP/AR preferred).
  • Strong MS Office skills including Excel and Word; familiarity with SAP and databases.
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred.

  • Prepare and review daily, weekly, monthly financial reports including plant P&L statements.

  • Collaborate with sales, customer service, shipping, maintenance, and operations to ensure timely payments and invoicing accuracy.
  • Oversee month-end inventory reconciliations and support operational corrections.

Job description

This is a full-time, salary exempt position. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting the financial health and operational success of our plant. You will work closely with the Controller to oversee daily accounting activities, prepare accurate financial reports and contribute to budgeting and forecasting efforts. In this role, you’ll collaborate across departments to resolve invoicing issues, support inventory accuracy, and ensure timely vendor and customer transactions. This is a hands‑on role where your attention to detail and problem‑solving skills will directly impact the efficiency and accuracy of our financial processes.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
  • Must be highly skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets.
  • 2 or more years experience in accounting
  • 3 or more years related experience within a general accounting support function, preferably accounts payables or receivables.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software products including Excel and Word, in addition to general knowledge of the use and application of computerized accounting software (SAP) and related database management systems
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Controller in managing daily accounting activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, inventory, reconciliations, and month‑end close.
  • Prepare, review, and submit daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports, including plant‑level P&L statements.
  • Support monthly financial statement processing, budgeting, forecasting, and participation in weekly forecast meetings.
  • Post and review journal entries and verify general ledger accuracy.
  • Provide support to the Senior Accountant and collaborate with staff across sales, customer service, shipping, maintenance, and operations to ensure timely payments, invoicing accuracy, and resolution of customer credit memos.
  • Oversee month‑end inventory reconciliations and support operations with corrections when needed.
  • Provide guidance and training to accounting and plant staff to ensure alignment with financial processes.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to strengthen accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with both plant teams and the corporate office to maintain alignment and compliance.
  • Conduct daily production and revenue analysis, reconciling with SAP systems.
  • Ensure precise physical inventories and cycle counts of materials.
  • Prepare weekly consumption estimates and assist in comprehensive month‑end closings.
  • Collaborate on the development of the annual budget for executive presentation.
  • Engage in substantial ad hoc reporting and data analysis.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, volume, and net present value. Ability to evaluate financial alternatives and recognize and interpret financial trends and performance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Computer literate (MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as accounting software)

Reading and writing command of the English language

Proficient knowledge and application of accounting principles

Preferred skills: SAP, advanced Excel.

The performance of the Assistant Controller will be measured as follows:

Operating standards - The employee will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards set in the areas of quality, cost, safety, planning, customer satisfactions, supervision, efficiency, and productivity. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the manager.

Personal growth - Each year there will be professional goals developed and agreed to by the manager and supervisor.

Employee relations – The employee will be evaluated regarding his/her skills and advancements in the areas of motivational techniques and results, positive and corrective/constructive feedback, subordinate development and creating a positive work environment.

Creativity – This will be evaluated by how active the employee is in participating in advancing the business through new and innovative ideas.
