Job summary

Pratt Industries, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller for our California plant. The role will generate timely reporting across roll stock and inventories, GL, AP, AR and payroll, with involvement in forecasts, month-end close, and annual budgeting.

The candidate will analyze P&L, balance sheets and cost controls, while supporting the Controller and management team in strategic initiatives. The position requires a Bachelor in Accounting and 5+ years in manufacturing finance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting required.
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GL, AP, payroll and financial controls.

Responsibilities

  • Create timely and accurate reporting for the Plant, including routine and ad hoc requests.
  • Support month-end close, forecasts, and budget processes.
  • Perform P&L analysis, balance sheet reviews and KPI reporting.
  • Reconcile revenues to SAP and perform revenue analysis.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and management presentations.
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with safety and corporate guidelines.

Reports to: Plant Controller

Job Summary

The Assistant Controller will create timely and accurate reporting for the Plant through both routine and ad hoc reporting requests. The Assistant Controller will have exposure to all areas of the business, including but not limited to: roll stock and other inventories; accounts payable; accounts receivable and collections; P&L analysis, balance sheet reviews and analysis. Oher functions include assisting the Controller with weekly forecasts, mid-month estimates, month-end close, annual budget and ad hoc presentations as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Roll Stock (RS) reporting: consumption, receipts, on hand and aged inventory
  • Revenue analysis, customer mix and reconcile revenues to SAP
  • Physical Inventories and cycle counts (Roll Stock, Finished Goods, Fixed Assets and Spare Parts)
  • Process accounts payable, expense reports and review of EDI (RS) shipments
  • Assist in preparation of forecasts.
  • Significant role in month-end closing and financial reporting process, including account analysis - prime materials and converting costs (Energy, R&M, Distribution and Overheads), including but not limited to:
  • Goods Received/ Invoice Received reconciliation and clearing
  • Prepare POs and FIs before AP cut-off
  • Energy review and accrual
  • Overhead review and accruals
  • Complete month-end (ME) closing for Roll Stock: Mill Wide ME Cut-off, RS consumption, rebates & waste income, includes account reconciliations
  • Prepare Shrink Calculation
  • Prepare and post Statistical data to SAP
  • Maintain Operating lease schedule
  • Fixed Assets/Capital Project Spend reporting
  • Work closely with Controller and Management Team to develop and prepare the annual budget, including KPI's for presentation to Pratt Executive Management.
  • Ensure existence and adherence to internal controls
  • Heavy ad hoc reporting and analysis using Excel and other systems
  • Work autonomous and have the ability to effectively multitask.
  • Complies with safety regulations and corporate guidelines on business ethics.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company's discretion.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education: Minimum Bachelor Degree in Accounting.

Preferred Experience: 5+ years in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Microsoft (Excel, Word and PowerPoint); Intermediate Excel skills including: formulas, pivot tables, lookups and graphs. Gmail and the Google suite of offerings.
  • Strong general ledger, accounts payable and payroll working knowledge.
  • Experience in assessing, analyzing and improving business performance.

Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to speak effectively before groups.

Preferred Systems: SAP

  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast pace and dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to wear safety glasses, ear protection, and steel-toed shoes when working in areas requiring PPE.

  • Ability and willingness to travel for conferences, training, etc.
  • Willingness to relocate for future advancement preferred.
