Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States is seeking an electrical technician to verify, maintain, and calibrate high-voltage equipment and related control systems. You will perform precision testing, data acquisition, and energy management tasks while ensuring safety standards are met.

The role requires an associate degree and hands-on experience with high voltage, diagnostics, and environmental monitoring equipment.

Qualifications

  • Must meet the Company’s General Qualifications as set forth in the Forward to the Job Manual.
  • Must have satisfactorily passed entry-level tests.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must live within 45 miles of reporting location.
  • Must weigh under 285lbs at time of hire.
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Ability to work in adverse and extreme weather conditions, high voltage, high steam pressure, confined spaces, dirt and noise.
  • Ability to climb and work at various heights, and lift and carry moderately heavy test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in verifying and correcting wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment panel layouts to engineering standards.
  • Assist in verifying equipment received and ordered against engineering specifications and standards.
  • Assist in servicing digital fault recorders and oscillographs.
  • Assist in labeling relays, transducers, test switches, switchgears, circuit breakers, transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Act as a safety person during high voltage testing.
  • Assist in installing, testing, calibrating, and maintaining weather and environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Assist in servicing, repairing, and calibrating meters, transducers, satellite communication, and recording instruments for the Energy Management System.
  • Perform electrical calculations involving current, voltage, phase angle, impedance, power factor, and capacitance using vector analysis.
  • Assist in servicing energized equipment and diagnosing faulty operation of voltage regulators and transformer voltage-level control equipment.
  • Assist in conducting overhaul tests on network and underground voltage transformers.
  • Assist in high voltage testing, including hi-potting and power factor testing.
  • Assist in calibrating and maintaining system protective relays and test equipment, including high voltage dielectric testing of insulating oils.
  • Assist in organizing substation and generating station data and databases.
  • Assist in acceptance tests on substation and generation plant protective devices.
  • Assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing supervisory control, data acquisition, energy management, load control, remote alarming, and terminal unit equipment.
  • Assist in servicing and repairing computers, relays, electrical and electronic subassemblies, and test equipment.
  • Assist in installing, inspecting, adjusting, maintaining, and testing line traps, tuning units, carrier, and protective transfer trip equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining and testing electronic devices, circuits, metering devices, recording equipment, data links, and Energy Management System equipment.
  • Assist in installing, testing, and repairing leased line, fiber optic, microwave, satellite radio, and cellular communication systems.
  • Work with extreme accuracy using specialized tools and test equipment for precision adjustments.
