About the Position

The primary role is to provide teaching, coaching, and technical expertise that enables the student‑athlete to compete at their highest potential. The Assistant Coach is responsible for all coaching and teaching duties associated with the program, including overseeing the safety and well‑being of student‑athletes. In the Head Coach’s absence, the Assistant Coach acts on behalf of the Head Coach on all program matters. The role supports a highly competitive Division I program at all levels.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Coaching

• Utilize sound teaching techniques during game preparation and practice sessions.
• Assist in making strategic decisions during contests.
• Prepare and organize pre‑season, in‑season and post‑season practice and skill sessions.
• Assist the Head Coach in evaluating student‑athletes and prospective recruits.
• Maintain a safe and healthy environment for student‑athletes.

Department, University, Conference and NCAA Compliance

• Promote the aims, goals, and objectives established by the Athletic Director and Head Coach.
• Adhere to policies, guidelines, rules, regulations, and criteria established for student‑athletes.
• Ensure student‑athletes comply with University, Atlantic 10, and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Apply confidentiality rules (Buckley Amendment).
• Follow due‑process procedures and administrative processes outlined in the Department Staff Handbook.
• Assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing recruiting strategy within the University, A10, and NCAA constraints.

Acts as Team Liaison to

• Equipment office staff for ordering and monitoring equipment.
• Business Office and Coaches for program operations, logistics, planning and team travel.
• Academic Services (study hall and tutoring).

Fundraising

• Participate in and assist with fundraising efforts and special events.

Other Duties

• Perform other duties as requested by the Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or Sport Administrator.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field or comparable training and work experience.
• Previous coaching experience at the high school or club level.
• Knowledge of NCAA Women’s Lacrosse rules and landscape.
• Skill in coaching both big‑picture and small‑sided lacrosse.
• Flexibility to travel, recruit, and adjust schedule.
• Ability to collaborate with others and work well under pressure.
• Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous collegiate coaching experience.
• Knowledge, skills, and attributes gained from past collegiate coaching.
