Responsibilities

• Possess and utilize knowledge of the sport(s) coached.
• Motivate students and foster school spirit and morale.
• Coach in accordance with established philosophy and conduct standards.
• Supervise safety and conduct during practices and events.
• Instill sportsmanship among students.
• Enforce student code-of-conduct provisions.
• Maintain discipline during practices and events.
• Prepare and implement practice/event plans with annual goals.
• Communicate with administration, students, and parents about practices/events.
• Keep administration and athletic director informed on progress and issues.
• Maintain necessary forms, reports, inventories, and records.
• Safeguard school district property.
• Work cooperatively with other coaches and staff.
• Carry out evaluation-related and other assigned duties.
• Hold valid coaching authorization issued by the Iowa Department of Education.
• Hold a valid coaching contract approved by the Board of Education.
• Provide a certificate of physical examination when assigned as a non-teaching coach.
