Job summary

TVT Community Day School in Irvine, CA seeks a Temporary/Seasonal Assistant Coach to help plan, develop, and implement interscholastic sports policies and train student-athletes for competition.

Under the Division Head, Athletic Director and Head Coach, you will coordinate practices, supervise students, ensure safety, and communicate with administrators, trainers, and media as needed.

Qualifications

• Coaching knowledge and leadership for interscholastic programs.
• Knowledge of health and safety rules in sports.
• Ability to develop conditioning programs and monitor athlete safety.
• NFHS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and coordinate the school site interscholastic sports program.
• Supervise students during practice, games, and travel.
• Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
• Observe participants to correct technique and enforce safety rules.
• Develop conditioning programs to maximize performance.
• Collaborate with administrators and athletic trainers; monitor injuries and return-to-play protocols.
• Assess team skills and plan game strategies.

Position Type: Temporary/Seasonal

Salary Range: $22.00 - $22.00 Hourly

Position Summary: Under general direction of the Division Head, Athletic Director and Head Coach, assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to an interscholastic sports program; to instruct and train student-athletes and teams in attaining proficiency in sport related functions; and to do other related functions as directed.

Essential Job Functions

• Plan, organize, and coordinate the school site interscholastic sports program.
• Supervise students during practice, games, tournaments, and team travel.
• Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
• Observe sport participants during practice and workout sessions to detect and correct errors in activity procedures and methods.
• Instruct, explain, and enforce health and safety rules and regulations.
• Develop and implement physical conditioning programs that allow athletes to achieve maximum performance.
• Collaborate with administrators and athletic trainers. Review, audit, and monitor sport activity related injuries and follows protocol regarding injuries and return to play standards.
• Assess the athletic team skills and abilities and the opponents capabilities and determines game strategies.
• Work effectively with all school and community stakeholders including media and press.
• Ensure student-athletes are academically eligible for interscholastic sports.
• Consistently submit athletic contest results to athletic director, school website, Max Preps, OC Varsity, and any other designated media outlets.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of

• Principles, goals, and objectives of TVT and CIF.
• Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective interscholastic sports program.
• Sports interest groups and organizations within the local community.
• Modern trends and strategies pertaining to interscholastic sports.

Ability to

• Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
• Analyze and assess interscholastic sports program needs, and offer recommendations pertaining to program revisions, additions, or deletions.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls. In addition, communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Certification Requirement

• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
• NFHS Concussion in Sports
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
• First Aid/CPR

Physical Demands

This is a non-sedentary position classification that performs light to medium work that involves walking, running and standing for extended periods. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
