Job summary

Job description

Minimum Compensation: $1,853 (25-26 Salary Schedule)

Employment Type: Exempt

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Oversee training of players in conjunction with other coaches
  • Develop training plans for players in conjunction with other coaches
  • Assist in overseeing the running of specific events as needed at home games as directed by head coach and Athletic Director
  • Contribute to game line-up planning with other coaches
  • Attend and coach at all practices
  • Attend and coach at all games
  • Assist other coaches in monitoring team members’ practice attendance, school attendance, meet/match attendance, and grades
  • Assist other coaches in enforcing team policies
  • Responsible for providing student-athletes with feedback about their performance related to disposition, behavior, and team skills
  • Successful completion of the required WIAA Rules Exam and video by the start of the sports season
  • Participate in ongoing education and professional development to support the overall experience of all student athletes
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Ability to reinforce good sportsmanship and compliance with athletic codes among team members and members of the coaching staff
  • Ability to provide positive motivation and development of student-athletes including year‑around monitoring of conduct and academic performance
  • Ability to maintain open communication with coaching staff, student athletes, parents, and age group coaches
  • Ability to analyze opponent tendencies and to design responsive strategies
  • Ability to integrate the sports program into the total school experience of the student athlete
  • Ability to work with and coach a diverse population
  • Knowledge about instructional progressions of techniques in the sport
  • Knowledge of WIAA eligibility standards
Minimum Qualifications
  • A teaching license or the ability to complete ASEP or NFHS COaching Principles coaching certification program within one year of hire Commitment to year‑around personnel skill enhancement and program improvement
  • Current certification in first aid, with preference for course work in sports‑medicine, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and cooperation with team or family physicians
  • Current certification or must obtain within one month of employment and maintain CPR/AED certification from a national certifying organization
Desired Qualifications
  • Competitive playing experience at the high school level
  • Previous coaching experience with preference to coaches with prior successful experience at the high school level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of contemporary systems in the sport
  • Valid teaching license
  • College playing/coaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement sports systems in a high school setting
Working Conditions
  • Work may require travel to different locations within the district and to off‑site meetings.
  • Position may require working evenings, nights, and some weekends.
  • Certain positions within the District may allow hybrid work flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process.
  • School‑based positions are required to be in‑person unless otherwise directed by the building principal.
Physical Requirements

Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time and the ability to stand for extended periods of time, while coaching at practices and games. Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
