Job summary

Riverdale School District in Portland invites applications for an Assistant Coach for 7th/8th Grade Boys Basketball for the 2026-27 season (November 2026–February 2027). Position is limited-term and reports to the Athletic Director.

Candidates must complete OSAA Coaching Certifications, NFHS/ASEP, First Aid (CPR/AED), and fingerprinting. Duties include leading the program, serving as a role model for student-athletes, and coordinating with other school activities.

Responsibilities

• Directly responsible to the head coach and is expected to carry out the same responsibilities as the head coach when put in charge of a team. The assistant/middle school coach should carry out all duties and responsibilities assigned to them within district rules and regulations.
• An assistant coach should display a competitive spirit, possess emotional self-control, set goals and standards for themselves and the team they represent, and reflect the school and district philosophy of athletics.
• An assistant coach should enlist participants and create interest in the activity by whatever means are available.
• The person designated as a coach should possess competencies that will enable the coach to organize, instruct, and prepare the athletes in the fundamentals of the game, coach athletes in using the fundamentals in a strategic manner, and play by the rules set forth.
