The City of Summit is seeking a full-time Assistant City Engineer. The responsibilities include but are not limited to development, design, construction, and execution of engineering/public works projects, from concept and specifications to inspections and project closeout.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for City infrastructure repair/replacement;
  2. Drawing and drafting;
  3. Quality plan conformance;
  4. Site plan and survey reviews;
  5. Public bid tabulations;
  6. Filing;
  7. Complex engineering computations;
  8. Plan copies;
  9. Permit processing;
  10. Conducting traffic studies/counts;
  11. Heavy communications with regulatory agencies, utilities, contractors, and public;
  12. Represents City as needed at public and Council meetings.

Qualifications:

  1. Detail-oriented, flexible, confidential, organized, and excellent communication skills;
  2. Proactive personality with superior interpersonal and customer service skills;
  3. Supervisory skills and ability to act in absence of City Engineer;
  4. Highly motivated individual with proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD;
  5. GIS fluency, multi-tasking and project/time management skills essential;
  6. Civil engineering degree, NJ P.E. license, and valid driver’s license required;
  7. 3–5 years of experience preferred.
