Job description

Job Description The Opportunity:

The Daytona Beach Flight Training Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Chief Flight Instructor (formerly Training Manager). The Assistant Chief Flight Instructor is responsible for the overall administration of flight training including safety of training, quality of training, and student service. Individually manages all aspects of flight training for 25 Instructor Pilots and is responsible for the welfare of approximately 250 flight students.

Duties include:

  1. Provide Management of assets and job functions of all assigned personnel.
  2. Ensure the appropriate workload of assigned instructor pilots is maintained.
  3. Student Assignment.
  4. Student Tracking (Tracking student training progress).
  5. Conduct weekly meetings with teams to coordinate flight operations and enhance Flight Department effectiveness.
  6. Communicate changes in policy and procedures.
  7. Scheduling student and Instructor training events.

Provide quality flight training and ensure normal progress of assigned students while promoting the initiatives of the university’s safety culture, through mentoring and management techniques.

Review, modify, and assist in the completion of required paperwork:

  1. Progress Checks.
  2. Course Completes.
  3. Withdrawals.
  4. Extra Training.
  5. Performance Evaluations.

Promote the Embry-Riddle Student Care and Customer Satisfaction programs by:

  1. Counseling Students and Instructor Pilots as needed by regularly communicating with students about training progress.
  2. Developing and implementing a plan of action if needed.
  3. Monitoring student progress to ensure minimum standards are met.
  4. Fall orientation.

Ensure compliance with University Policy and FAA Regulations:

  1. Verify compliance with Part 141 and Part 142 regulations and Training Course Outlines.
  2. Notify the Chief Flight Instructor on any deviations to Training Course Outlines prior to any deviation.
  3. Verify instructor pilots are conducting training during assigned days and times.
  4. Timely completion of required paperwork.

Ensure the quality of training is maintained by:

  1. Administering assigned phase checks.
  2. Conducting performance evaluations for FT IPs.

Communicate with the appropriate personnel:

  1. Weekly Reports.
  2. Weekly meetings.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities include: Responsible for assistant training manager(s), flight instructors, student assistants, and flight students assigned to the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor’s team.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
  2. 1-3 years’ related experience preferred.

Required licenses, certificates, and/or security clearances:

  1. FAA Certificated Flight Instructor/Instrument CFI, CFII Airplane, Single Engine Land (Multi-engine Land preferred).
  2. 500 hours dual instruction given.

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

  1. Analytical skills with proficiency using Microsoft products to include; Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet.
  2. Management, organizational, public relations, technical, problem-solving skills required.
