Job summary

JLL is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer, Data Centers in Columbus, GA to oversee critical facility operations, mentor engineers, and coordinate maintenance of power, cooling, and network infrastructure within a data center environment.

You will lead preventive maintenance, manage incidents, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and capacity planning while supporting upgrades and complex projects. Experience in data center operations is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations and management.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure including power, cooling and network architecture.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ASHRAE, TIA, Uptime Institute).
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency with facility management software and building automation systems.
  • Valid certification in at least one relevant area (CDCP, DCPRO or equivalent).
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the management and coordination of data center facility operations and maintenance activities.
  • Supervising and mentoring technical staff, including engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Monitoring and analyzing critical systems performance, including power, cooling, and network infrastructure.
  • Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participating in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrade projects.
  • Responding to and managing critical incidents and emergency situations.
  • Preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for management and clients.
  • Be the first point of contact for service impacting events involving the electrical distribution system.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and mitigating incidents.
  • Assist in the creation of root cause analysis (RCAs).
  • Be available for after-hours support (24x7).

What this job involves -

As an Assistant Chief Engineer for Data Center Facilities at JLL, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of mission-critical data center environments. You will work closely with the Chief Engineer to oversee facility operations, manage technical teams, and implement strategies to optimize performance, reliability, and efficiency of data center infrastructure.

Your day-to-day tasks will include -

Assisting in the management and coordination of data center facility operations and maintenance activities

Supervising and mentoring technical staff, including engineers, technicians, and contractors

Monitoring and analyzing critical systems performance, including power, cooling, and network infrastructure

Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures

Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements

Participating in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrade projects

Responding to and managing critical incidents and emergency situations

Preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for management and clients

Be the first point of contact for service impacting events involving the electrical distribution system.

Desired experience and technical skills -

Requirements:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations and management

Familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, TIA, Uptime Institute)

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
