Job summary

JLL is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer - Critical Environments in Austin, TX to oversee data center facilities, ensure reliability, and lead technical teams. The role involves coordinating operations, maintenance, and incident response to optimize power, cooling, and network uptime.

You will work with the Chief Engineer, implement preventive maintenance, and drive safety and regulatory compliance across multi-site data center environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations and management.
• Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling systems, and network architecture.
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, TIA, Uptime Institute).
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Proficiency in using facility management software and building automation systems.
• Proficiency in the use of Work Order Management Software (CMMS).
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the management and coordination of data center facility operations and maintenance activities.
• Supervising and mentoring technical staff, including engineers, technicians, and contractors.
• Monitoring and analyzing critical systems performance, including power, cooling, and network infrastructure.
• Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Participating in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrade projects.
• Responding to and managing critical incidents and emergency situations.
• Preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for management and clients.
• Be the first point of contact for service impacting events involving the electrical distribution system.
• Assist the team in troubleshooting and mitigating incidents.
• Assist in the creation of root cause analysis (RCAs).
• Be available for after-hours support regarding the electrical distribution systems. This includes 24x7 responses.

Assistant Chief Engineer - Critical Environments

What this job involves -

As an Assistant Chief Engineer for Data Center Facilities at JLL, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of mission-critical data center environments.
