This position supports the Chemical Hygiene program to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant guidelines, aiming to minimize hazards and exposures in laboratory settings. The role involves independent task management, interaction with university stakeholders, and compliance enforcement.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Chemical Hygiene Plan and laboratory safety programs.
  • Conducting laboratory audits, chemical exposure investigations, and industrial hygiene evaluations.
  • Training faculty, staff, and students on chemical safety and regulations.
  • Managing chemical inventory and responding to safety emergencies.
  • Assisting with facility safety planning and program development.
  • Participating in safety committees and representing the university at conferences.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Four years of relevant safety experience; certifications like CHO, CSP, CIH, or CHMM are desirable.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards, effective communication skills, and current HAZWOPER and DOT certifications or ability to obtain within six months.

Special Requirements:

  • Background check, hazmat physical, and ability to handle hazardous materials safely.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
