Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the sport program under the Head Coach. You will instruct athletes in fundamentals, strategies, and safety, and help maintain records and equipment inventories.

You will communicate policies to students and guardians and ensure a safe environment through supervision. Responsibilities include assisting with scheduling, reporting injuries, following VHSL rules, and contributing to professional growth and sportsmanship.

Qualifications

• ACPS staff preferred.
• Knowledge and background in assigned sport.
• Previous coaching experience in assigned sport is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Informs students about athletic program safety and injury reporting.
• Maintains and communicates about insurance and safety procedures.
• Provides supervision to ensure a safe environment for participants.
• Assists Head Coach with records and equipment documentation.
• Ensures compliance with Virginia High School League and ACPS policies.
• Keeps eligibility rosters and addresses updated as required by authorities.
• Communicates with parents/guardians and handles program information.

The Assistant Coach carries out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the Head Coach; instructs athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. This job reports to Head Coach/Director of Athletic/Director of Student Activities.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

• Instructs athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
• Instructs participants on personal hygiene and safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and /or trainer immediately.
• Informs students of the insurance program available through the Alexandria City Public Schools.
• Provides all students involved in the program a safe environment through adequate supervision.
• Assists Head Coach with maintaining individual and team performance records.
• Assists Head Coach in providing accurate records of equipment to the assistant to the Director of Athletic/Director of Student Activities.
• Conveys the policies of the team, local school and ACPS (e.g. regulation on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extra Curricular Activities) to all participants.
• Ensures compliance with rules, polices and regulations of the Virginia High School League, regional and district councils, and ACPS.
• Submits forms to the Director of Athletic/Director of Student Activities (e.g. eligibility rosters, players', addresses, etc.) to meet requirements by the Virginia High School League, the School Board, local school and ACPS.
• Follows School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies involving financial transactions.
• Establishes procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
• Informs students about athletic program and encourages their participation.
• Assists Head Coach with public relations and conveying information on athletic program.
• Implements appropriate procedures when handling injury situations.
• Ensures availability of first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.
• Inspects facilities, equipment and environmental conditions to ensure the safety of participants.
• Participates in professional growth activities.
• Participates in the award program(s) in adherence of school procedures.
• Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship.
• Assists other personnel and performs other duties as may be required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Compensation

Casual pay, $1,000.00 to $2,761.00, please discuss with hiring manager

• Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
• Tuberculosis Skin Test.
• Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
