Job Description

Position: Coach

Location: District Wide – As Assigned

Reports To: Athletic Director and/or Assistant Principal

Job Goal:

  • The Coach is to provide additional educational opportunities outside of the regular curriculum by providing leadership and mentoring skills to students who participate in a sport. They provide a safe environment where a student can develop personal skills and teamwork.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED, Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Must hold a valid Arizona State Teachers certificate, and/or appropriate AIA Coaching Certificates and CPR/First Aid certificates.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general curriculum periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence with parents, community and other agencies.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Responsibilities
  • Advocates for the department.
  • Communicates with staff, community, parents and players regarding activities and participation.
  • Enforces AIA regulations and Board policies.
  • Evaluates support staff as appropriate.
  • Oversees maintenance of equipment and buildings used by the athletic department.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of all equipment.
  • Acts as mentor and coach for students.
  • Manages daily operations of the sport including transportation, student eligibility and students’ physical/emotional well‑being.
  • Completes all duties during the sport season and pre‑season.
  • Attends coaching clinics and workshops.
  • Provides supervision, administration and security of locker rooms, practice areas, and buses/vans.
Terms of Employment
  • Stipend Position.
  • Must pass Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance check.
  • Must be United States citizen or hold valid work visa; changes in visa status must be reported to Human Resources.
Evaluation
  • Performance evaluated per Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
Required Documentation
  • Proof of Mumps, Measles and Rubella (MMR) vaccination.
  • Valid government‑issued identification or current work visa with expiration date.
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts accepted with application; official transcripts due upon job offer.
  • Foreign transcripts must be accompanied by full translation and evaluated for equivalency.
