Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care is seeking an Allied Health Assistant to provide personal care under licensed supervision. Responsibilities include data collection, patient safety, specimen handling, and assisting physicians with procedures.

Requirements: approved nursing/medical assistant program, BLS within 14 days, CMA certification, and NCCT/board certification within 6 months. Strong communication and computer literacy are essential.

Qualifications

  • Approved nursing or medical assistant course.
  • Minimum of one year experience.
  • High School Diploma; graduate of approved medical assistant program or equivalent.
  • BLS certification within 14 days of hire; CMA certification required.
  • Certified by the National Certification Board or NCCT within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients by collecting data relevant to their condition and communicates assessment information to patients, families, staff, and physicians.
  • Identifies VS and lab alert values and communicates out-of-range results to the nurse/provider promptly.
  • Gathers reports from staff, labs, imaging, pathology and other sources for physicians as requested.
  • Helps maintain efficient patient workflow and supports front desk coverage as needed.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and specimen collection; ensures quality control.
  • Sets up rooms for procedures, labels specimens, and enters results into the EMR under physician supervision.
  • Maintains patient safety through standard precautions and quality control methods.
  • Answers phones, documents in EMR, and routes to appropriate personnel at the front desk.
  • Schedules appointments, registers patients, and coordinates outpatient procedures/testing.

Job Summary

Job Responsibilities
  • Assesses the patient through the collection of data relevant to the patient's condition and communicates assessment information effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
  • Identifies VS and lab alert values, and communicates values outside parameters with the patient's nurse/provider promptly and effectively.
  • Gathers reports from staff, labs, imaging, pathology and others, and makes available to the physicians as requested.
  • Provides assistance in keeping efficient patient workflow.
  • Provides assistance to physicians with procedures as well as specimen collection while maintaining quality control standards.
  • Sets up rooms for procedures and exams, draws and labels peripheral blood specimens according to hospital policy, and under the supervision of physicians enters the results in the electronic medical record.
  • Provides for patient safety through standard precautions and quality control methods.
  • Assists with coverage of the front desk by answering phones, accurately and thoroughly documenting in the EMR, then routing to the appropriate personnel.
  • Schedules appointments, registers patients, schedules outpatient procedures/testing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Specifications

Licensure
