Job summary

West Elm, part of Williams-Sonoma, Inc., is seeking an Assistant Buyer to support daily and seasonal tasks, maintain data integrity, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The role reports to a Buyer and shares ownership of a category, with responsibilities spanning pricing, SKUs, and merchandising execution.

You will work in a fast-paced retail environment, onsite Monday-Thursday and remotely on Friday, helping drive profitability and engaging in data-informed decision making.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 1–2 years of retail buying experience.
  • Familiar and comfortable with pulling sales reports and analyzing business metrics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; pivot tables and advanced formulas (VLOOKUP).

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain all SKUs in merchandise systems.
  • Maintain visual line and merchandise lists.
  • Communicate project status, costing, and SKU worksheets; pass new SKUs for placement and track PO due dates.
  • Assist sample management with cross-functional teams (photo and warehouse).
  • Enter and maintain pricing for DTC and Retail, coordinating with inventory and sourcing teams.
  • Manage personalization techniques for photography and site execution.
  • Prepare reporting and support Buyer with opportunities.
  • Plan seasonal floor sets with Buyers and Visual teams; update files accordingly.
  • Maintain strong relationships with cross-functional partners across inventory, design, development, ecommerce, and creative teams.

About The Role

You will report to a Buyer and share ownership of a category. You will assist in daily/seasonal tasks to help drive the business. As the Assistant Buyer, you will be responsible for maintaining data integrity, supporting the Buyer on seasonal needs, and working closely with multiple cross-functional teams. In this role you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced retail environment while working with a highly collaborative team.

This role requires being onsite in our office Monday through Thursday, and remote option on Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Work within Merchandise systems to set up and maintain all SKUs
  • Responsible for visual line and merchandise list
  • Communicate project and sample status updates, costing/SKU worksheets; responsible for passing new SKUs for placement once approved and tracking to PO due dates
  • Responsible for assisting sample management – communicating and partnering with our photoand warehouse teams to track sample positions
  • Enter and maintain all regular pricing for DTC and Retail, working closely with inventory partners and sourcing teams
  • Manage personalization techniques, opportunities, and execution for photography and site
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the relevant retail markets; maintain and upkeep competitive analyses
  • Prepare reporting as directed and assist the Buyer with business opportunities
  • Partner with the Buyer and Visual teams to plan seasonal retail floor sets, including assisting with seasonal walkthrough setups and updating relevant file
  • Maintain strong, positive relationships with cross-functional partners across inventory, design, development, e-commerce, and creative teams
Criteria
  • BA /BS degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 1-2 years of retail buying experience
  • Familiar and comfortable with pulling sales reports and strong ability to analyze business metrics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint); ability to create pivot tables and experience with advanced formulas such as VLOOKUP
  • Note: Occasional travel may be required

The expected starting pay range for this position is$28 - $32/hr. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets.
