Job summary

Atlas Copco in Plymouth, MI is seeking an Assistant Business Controller to support the Business Controller in accounting, reporting and analysis of business results. The role covers accounting, closing, audit coordination, ERP optimization (Power BI), and internal controls across a manufacturing environment.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with on-site collaboration at our Plymouth, Michigan office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
• CPA preferred but not required.
• Experience with standard costing in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in a multinational company with consolidation of multiple entities.
• Strong communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
• High energy, results‑oriented, team player.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the day to day accounting activities including accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets.
• Assist in the research new accounting standards and apply them to the business.
• Manage the month‑end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
• Review balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Analyze inventory – raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
• Play a key role in the standardized monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting.
• Develop and utilize analytical tools to identify data anomalies.
• Prepare explanations for plan and forecasted figures.
• Forecast revenues and expenses on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
• Work with operations and cost accounting to understand variances and follow up actions.
• Serve as main contact for external auditors.
• Prepare and coordinate audit requests.
• Prepare for and participate in internal audits.
• Perform control self‑assessments on a regular basis.
• Ensure internal controls are in place and proper segregation of duties.

Job description

The role of the Assistant Business Controller is to provide support to the Business Controller in managing all accounting, reporting and analysis of business results.

• Accounting
  • Supervise the day to day accounting activities including accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets
  • Assist in the research new accounting standards and apply them to the business
  • Manage the month‑end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements
  • Review balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Analyze inventory – raw materials, WIP and finished goods
• Reporting and Controlling
  • Play a key role in the standardized monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting
  • Ensure accurate reporting by developing and utilizing analytical tools to identify anomalies in the data
  • Prepare explanations for the plan and forecasted figures
  • Forecast revenues and expenses on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Work closely with operations and cost accountant to ensure full understanding of results / variances and assist in the follow-up of any necessary corrective actions
• Audit and Internal Controls
  • Serve as main contact for external auditors
  • Prepare and coordinate the preparation of audit requests
  • Prepare for and participate in internal audits
  • Perform control self‑assessments on a regular basis
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and evaluate these controls to ensure segregation of duties and proper approval of transactions
• ERP / Information Technology
  • Maximize use of the ERP system to streamline reporting and analysis
  • Work closely with the ERP manager to realize efficiency gains in the accounting and other areas of the business
  • Develop and / or implement new tools (e.g. Power BI) to streamline analysis and reporting
• Other
  • Approve ACH, wires and checks
  • Serve as backup for business controller for various activities

Your skills and experience

• Strong knowledge of ERP systems
• 4+ years of standard costing experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience in a multinational company, including consolidation of multiple entities
• Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
• A high energy, results‑oriented, team player
• Strong Excel Skills
• Good presentation skills, and the ability to create executive level presentations
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance
• CPA preferred but not required
