Job summary

Legacy High School in Bismarck, ND seeks an Assistant Boys’ Wrestling Coach to support the head coach in leading and developing a competitive program. You will teach fundamentals, plan practices, provide feedback, supervise athletes, and help with match preparation while upholding NDHSAA and NFHS rules.

Strong wrestling knowledge, good communication, and the ability to work with high school athletes are required; prior coaching is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach with the organization and operation of the boys’ wrestling program.
• Teach proper wrestling techniques, fundamentals, strategies, conditioning, and safety practices.
• Plan and conduct practices in collaboration with the head coach.
• Provide individual instruction and feedback to student-athletes at all ability levels.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and other team activities.
• Assist with match preparation, lineup management, statistics, scouting, and competition-day responsibilities.
• Promote sportsmanship, accountability, teamwork, academic achievement, and appropriate student conduct.
• Establish positive and professional relationships with student-athletes, parents, school personnel, officials, and opposing programs.
• Support and consistently enforce team, school district, NDHSAA, and NFHS rules and expectations.
• Assist with the care, inventory, distribution, and storage of wrestling equipment and uniforms.
• Help maintain a safe, organized wrestling room and practice environment.
• Participate in required coaches’ meetings, professional development, and program activities.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the overall wrestling program, including supporting younger wrestlers and the program’s long-term development.
• Perform other coaching duties as assigned by the head coach or Activities Director.

Job Description

The Assistant Boys’ Wrestling Coach supports the head coach in providing leadership, instruction, and supervision for the high school wrestling program. The assistant coach will help develop student-athletes technically, physically, academically, and personally while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and a positive team culture.

Qualifications: Candidates should have knowledge of wrestling fundamentals and coaching techniques, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with high school student-athletes. Previous wrestling and/or coaching experience is preferred. Candidates must meet all school district and NDHSAA coaching requirements.

Position Expectations: The successful candidate will serve as a positive role model, demonstrate professionalism and integrity, support the philosophy and direction established by the head coach, and place the educational and personal development of student-athletes at the center of the program.

Please note - Coaches who hold a ND teaching license - wages are reportable to the North Dakota Teacher's Fund for Retirement (TFFR). The employee (coach) will contribute 11.75% of their salary and the District will contribute 12.75%.
