Job summary

Duval County Public Schools seeks an athletic coach to administer all aspects of sports within the district and individual school athletic departments, following Florida High School Athletics Association and NFHS guidelines.

You will enforce conditioning rules, maintain eligibility forms, coordinate health examinations, supervise practices and games, and ensure compliance with district and state regulations while promoting student-athlete development.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach.
  • Certifications & Licenses: Completion of required athletic coaching courses including CPR/First Aid, NFHS concussion in sports, AED training, and Florida DOE Athletic Coaching certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Announce and enforce rules pertaining to conditioning and health and safety of players.
  • Ensure forms (EL2, EL3, insurance verification, birth certificates) are on file for all team members.
  • Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics and Gateway Conference meetings; pursue coaching clinics for development.
  • Coordinate physical examinations and Verify DCPS Athletic Health Examination Form before participation.
  • Conduct and supervise fundraising activities for the sport.
  • Supervise team at all times including locker room and post-practice pick-up.
  • Enforce Title IX, FHSAA, and Duval County School Board regulations.
  • Monitor academic progress of each athlete weekly.
  • Organize practice and game responsibilities with clear duties for coaching staff.
  • Report injuries to athletic trainer and obtain doctor/parent approval for Return to Play.

Job Summary

Administers all aspects of sports specific activity within the District and individual school's Athletic Department policy, as well as, within the guidelines of the Florida High School Athletics Association and the National Federation High Schools.

Essential Functions
  • Announce and enforce rules pertaining to conditioning of players and the training rules affecting the health and safety of the players. Ascertain that the EL2, EL3, Insurance Verification, Sportsmanship contract, birth certificate and other forms are on file for all team members.

  • Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics and Gateway Conference meetings. Continue to work on professional development by attending coaching clinics.

  • Cooperate with the athletic director in establishing physical examinations and verify that no candidate is issued equipment, allowed to practice or condition until the DCPS Athletic Health Examination Form is completed in full and signed by the athlete, parent/guardian and physician.

  • Conduct and supervise at least one fund raising activity for his or her sport.

  • Ensure the team is supervised at all times. This includes locker room supervision and making sure athletes are picked up after practices and contests.

  • Know and enforce the rules and regulations required by Title IX, FHSAA, and the Duval County School Board.

  • Monitor academic progress of each team member on a weekly basis.

  • Organizes practice and game responsibilities that are clear and understood by all involved; provides specific duties for coaching throughout the program: primary and extra-duty assignment.

  • Report injuries of participants to the athletic trainer and/or Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program as well as complete a Student Accident Report Form. Following injuries of a serious nature, the coach will secure the signed approval of the doctor and parents before the student is allowed to again participate in athletic activities, (Return to Play form).

  • Support and be an active participant in striving to improve the athletic program as well as the total educational program of the schools.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience: Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach or in the coaching arena

Certifications & Licenses: Completion of required athletic coaching courses to include First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Concussion in Sports (NFHS courses), AED training, Florida Department of Education Certificate (Athletic Coaching)
