Job summary

Concordia University Chicago is seeking an Assistant Coach for the NCAA Division III baseball program. You will assist the Head Coach in developing players, planning practices, and promoting competitive performance.

You will recruit and retain student-athletes with support from admissions, mentor players, and manage equipment and facilities to support a successful program. Prior collegiate coaching experience is preferred and interest in Lutheran higher education values is welcomed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Intercollegiate level expertise desired.
  • Previous playing or coaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with NCAA Division III rules and Concordia University Chicago policies.
  • Assist Head Coach in planning, organizing, and running all practice sessions.
  • Assist in recruitment of student athletes with the Office of Admission to maximize enrollment.
  • Retain student athletes and manage equipment inventories.
  • Teach skills and strategies necessary for student-athlete success in baseball.
  • Assist with coaching of sub-varsity teams and participation in camps/clinics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the development and maintenance of an effective and competitive NCAA Division III Baseball program at Concordia University Chicago. Teaching will include instruction of the skills and strategies necessary for the student-athlete to become competitive and successful in this sport. The recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes in this program will be integral to this position. The Assistant Coach is expected to teach and demonstrate the ability to promote the physical, intellectual, and social growth of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach is also responsible for assisting the Head Coach in their assigned responsibilities and in the direction of all aspects of their assigned sport program.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and comply with all rules and guidelines set forth by the NCAA Division III, Concordia University Chicago, NACC (Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference), and Concordia University Chicago Athletics.
  • Understand and comply with the NCAA and Concordia University Chicago mission and values.
  • Serve as a teacher, mentor, and role model so that student athletes will improve upon their physical, intellectual, and social behaviors.
  • Maximize the physical talent of the team through quality teaching and coaching, and the promotion of teamwork.
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and administering all practice sessions.
  • Assist in recruitment of student athletes while working through the Head Coach with the Office of Admission to maximize enrollment.
  • Retain student athletes at Concordia University Chicago and within the team.
  • Assist in maintaining, managing, and updating equipment inventories.
  • Teach the skills and strategies necessary for the student-athletes' success in this sport.
  • Specific emphasis on a specific area: Infield, Catching, hitting and strength and conditioning.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of all game and practice facilities used by the team.
  • Assist in the teaching and coaching of a sub-varsity team.
  • Participate in team and departmental camps/clinics, community service projects, fundraising activities, and alumni events whenever possible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Expertise in the sport at an intercollegiate level (desired)
  • Previous playing or coaching experience (desired)
Compensation and Benefits:

Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia health, disability, and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Tuition benefits may also be available for employees and their qualified dependents.
