Job summary

Albertsons Companies in Bath, ME seeks an Assistant Bakery Department Manager to support daily bakery operations, drive quality, and deliver exceptional customer experiences. You will help lead a team to maintain freshness, assortment, and service standards across the bakery storefront.

The role requires hands-on leadership, collaboration with store leadership, and the ability to manage staffing, production planning, and safety compliance during peak hours.

• Flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily Bakery Department operations with focus on quality, freshness, and service.
• Foster a welcoming customer-focused environment and handle special orders.
• Plan and execute daily bakery production according to sales trends.
• Execute merchandising plans, promotions, and seasonal programs.
• Assist with sales, labor, scheduling, inventory, and shrink goals.
• Ensure food safety and regulatory compliance.
• Help hire, train, and develop bakery associates; promote teamwork.
• Cover duties in the Bakery Manager's absence.

Main responsibilities:

• Assist in overseeing daily Bakery Department operations, ensuring high standards for quality, freshness, presentation, and customer service.
• Foster a welcoming, customer‑focused environment and resolve customer concerns and special orders
• Assist with planning and executing daily bakery production based on sales trends and seasonal demand.
• Execute merchandising plans, promotions, planograms, and seasonal programs
• Assist in managing department sales, labor, scheduling, ordering, inventory, and shrink goals.
• Support compliance with food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with hiring, training, coaching, and developing bakery associates while promoting teamwork and accountability.
• Perform Bakery Department duties as needed and assume responsibility for department operations in the absence of the Bakery Manager

Knowledge:

• Baking, decorating, proofing, and production planning techniques

• Food safety standards, temperature controls, allergen handling, and sanitation procedures

• Retail bakery operations and high‑volume production environments

Abilities:

• Ability to review sales, labor, and production data to inform departmental planning

• Ability to train, coach, and develop associates at various skill levels

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in hot and cold temperature environments
