Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General in Augusta, Maine seeks an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division to prosecute welfare fraud referrals from the DHHS Fraud, Investigation and Recovery Unit and to provide legal advice with investigators statewide.

Primary duties include handling criminal prosecutions in the Unified Criminal Docket and appellate work before the Law Court. Candidates should have strong trial skills, high ethical standards, and Maine Bar membership in good standing.

Qualifications

• Must be a member of the Maine Bar in good standing.
• One to three years of legal practice with demonstrated proficiency in criminal law preferred.
• Trial experience and strong writing skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute referrals from the Fraud, Investigation and Recovery Unit of DHHS for welfare fraud across the state.
• Provide legal advice and work with DHHS investigators to develop welfare fraud cases.
• Handle criminal prosecutions in the Unified Criminal Docket and appellate work before the Law Court.
