Job summary

The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General seeks an Assistant Attorney General for the Commerce, Elections, and Trades Division. The attorney will primarily represent the Department of Commerce before the Public Utilities Commission, handling energy- and telecom-related matters and related litigation.

Qualifications

  • Must have an ABA-accredited law degree and be licensed to practice law in Minnesota
  • Interest in energy- and telecom-related cases before administrative tribunals and occasionally in courts
  • Outstanding oral and written communication; a writing sample up to five pages must be attached to a cover letter
  • Proven ability to litigate independently and as lead counsel with a diverse caseload; multitask and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Department of Commerce in contested case proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and at PUC meetings
  • Handle energy- and telecom-related matters, review power plant operations, and address siting and routing of transmission lines
  • Work on additional cases for the division, including licensing-enforcement and representation for multiple agencies
  • Possibly engage in hearings and meetings in St. Paul and across the state; contribute to a collaborative work environment
