Job summary

Regis University is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to support a premier NCAA Division II sports medicine program. You will provide emergency care, daily follow-up evaluations, and coordinate with coaches, physicians, and therapists to protect student-athletes’ health and performance.

The role requires NATABOC certification, Colorado registration eligibility, and CPR/AED. Travel and weekend/evening hours are possible as part of the athletic program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training required; master's preferred.
  • NATABOC certification required.
  • BLS CPR and AED certification required.
  • Eligible to be registered with the State of Colorado.
  • 1-3 years NCAA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical evaluation, treatment, and injury triage for student-athletes.

  • Develop relationships with student-athletes and liaise with coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.

  • Assist in budget management, inventory oversight, and procurement of equipment.
  • Oversee PPE collection and compliance documentation; serve as point of contact for athletes and parents.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer and Deputy Athletic Director for Operations and Student Services, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for contributing to the superior NCAA Division II sports medicine program at Regis University. The athletic programs are the front porch of the institution, and it is paramount that the training and sports medicine programs offered to our students reflect the University’s standard of excellence. This position supports the University Mission by providing top-quality health care for student-athletes, maintaining clear and effective communications with athletic staff, and delivering superior customer service for all stakeholders with whom the athletic training programs interact. An atmosphere of care for student-athletes’ health and well-being must be the driving principle of the Regis University sports medicine program.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

· Emergency Medical Care: Provide emergency medical evaluation, treatment, and injury triage to student-athletes during practice and/or competition. Design and fabricate protective equipment and apply appropriate taping/wrapping to support extremities and prevent further injury aggravation.

· Follow-Up Medical Care : Provide daily follow-up care and evaluation of the injured/ill athletes and communicate with appropriate coaching and athletic staff regarding the status of injury/illness and participation capabilities. Collaborate with the Regis Cares physical therapy program to provide post-op or complicated injury rehabilitation care.

· Athlete Support and Program Coordination : Develop effective working relationships with student-athletes and liaise with athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.

· Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure full adherence to NCAA, RMAC, and Athletic Department laws, policies, rules, and regulations. Supervise and enforce compliance among assistants, employees, and volunteers under administrative oversight. Promptly report any suspected or potential violations to the University Deputy Director of Compliance.

· Medical Documentation and Billing: Document injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes. Maintain student-athlete pre-season paperwork, injury/documentation of therapy, medical billing requirements, and communication and Internet access hardware and software.

· Budget Management & Inventory Oversight:

Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in managing the program’s budget, including inventory control, supply bid allocation, insurance contracts, and training room facility maintenance. Ensure timely acquisition of necessary equipment and materials.

· Pre-Participation Exam (PPE) & Compliance Coordination: Oversee the collection and processing of all required PPE and compliance documentation per NCAA, RMAC, and Regis Athletic Department guidelines. Serve as the primary point of contact for student-athletes and parents regarding documentation requirements and ensure all athletes are cleared for participation.

· Professional Development & Compliance: Remain current on Higher Ed Athletics trends, best practices, and regulations by engaging in ongoing professional development. Attend and participate in NATA, RMAC, and NCAA meetings to enhance knowledge and improve performance in the role.

· Brand & Community Engagement: Represent Regis University Athletics in a professional manner, fostering positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, faculty, staff, and the community. Actively participate in university and athletic department events to promote the program’s mission and visibility.

· Fundraising: Participate fully in department fundraising events and activities, as wellas university and special project campaigns.

Working Conditions: Working conditions are normal for an office and athletic department environment with some heavy lifting up to 50lbs required. Work will require weekend and/or evening hours. Some local, regional, and/or national travel is required

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in athletic training. Master’s degree preferred
  • Must have a NATABOC certification
  • Must be certified in BLS, including CPR and AED use
  • Eligible to be registered with the State of Colorado
  • 1-3 years of NCAA experience preferred
