Job summary

The University of Vermont Athletics department is seeking a motivated Assistant Athletic Performance Coach to support strength and conditioning for NCAA Division I student-athletes. This part-time, non-benefited position will primarily work with Men's Soccer and assist with Men's Lacrosse and other sports as assigned.

You will design and supervise sport-specific programs, coordinate with athletic trainers, nutrition staff, and performance personnel, and contribute to injury risk reduction,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, or related field.
  • CSCS through NSCA or SCCC through CSCCa certification.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, program design, and athlete development.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams under supervision.
  • Direct and supervise training sessions, including strength, speed, mobility, and recovery activities.
  • Collaborate with athletic trainers, sport coaches, nutrition staff, and other performance personnel to optimize performance and wellbeing.
  • Assist with performance testing, data collection, and evaluation of training outcomes.
  • Ensure proper instruction and supervision of weight room techniques and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a positive training environment supporting student-athlete success.
  • Assist with daily operations of the athletic performance facility and scheduling.
  • Adhere to NCAA, conference, and university policies. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

The University of Vermont Athletic Performance Department is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Assistant Athletic Performance Coach to support the development and implementation of comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for NCAA Division I student-athletes. This part-time, non-benefited position will primarily work with Men's Soccer, assist with Men's Lacrosse and other sport programs as assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance. The successful candidate will contribute to a student-athlete-centered environment focused on enhancing athletic performance, reducing injury risk, and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and personal development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Design and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams under the direction of the Athletic Performance staff. Direct and supervise training sessions, including strength training, speed development, conditioning, mobility, and recovery activities. Collaborate with athletic trainers, sport coaches, nutrition staff, and other performance personnel to optimize student-athlete performance and well-being. Assist with performance testing, data collection, and evaluation of training outcomes. Ensure proper instruction and supervision of weight room techniques and safety procedures. Maintain a positive and inclusive training environment that supports the academic, athletic, and personal success of student-athletes. Assist with daily operations of the athletic performance facility, including equipment maintenance, scheduling, and facility oversight. Adhere to all NCAA, America East Conference, and University of Vermont policies and procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, or a related field.
  • Current certification through one of the following:
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, or
  • Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the CSCCa.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, program design, and athlete development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience working with collegiate athletes, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Experience coaching speed, power, movement, and conditioning development.
  • Familiarity with athlete monitoring technologies and performance testing systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to demonstrate exercises, move and set up equipment, and stand for extended periods while supervising training sessions. The candidate must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the position within an athletic performance environment.
