Job summary

Leona Group Schools is seeking a high school athletics coach at Maya High School in Phoenix, AZ. This off-contract position involves coaching, scheduling practices, and coordinating with the athletics director to support student-athletes and program success.

The role requires at least 18 years of age with a valid Level One IVP Clearance Card and ideally prior coaching experience; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred to support program development and academic eligibility oversight.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Prior coaching experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Organizes meetings for team prospects and encourages athletes to participate in the sport.
• Assesses players’ skills and assigns team positions.
• Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
• Works with the athletics director to schedule facilities for practices and competitions.
• Assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary.
• Coaches and instructs players on rules, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players to determine needs for improvement.
• Determines game strategy based on team capabilities.
• Maintains standards of behavior and supervises athletes at all times.
• Monitors academic performance to ensure eligibility; encourages academic standards.
• Follows procedures in case of injuries.
• Conferences with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
• Models positive behavior towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Communicates with booster clubs and other organizations to promote the sport.
• Maintains records for equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
• Works with athletic director to develop award policies and lists award winners.
• Participates in events like parent nights, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
• Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data, insurance records, and inventory.
• Potentially transports athletes to off-campus games.
• Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.


• Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.


• Models positive behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.


• Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.


• Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.


• Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.


• Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.


• Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.


• Potentially drive athletes using district transportation to and from off campus games.


• Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.


• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
