The Department of Translational Neuroscience at UTMB aims to advance knowledge about nervous system functions and diseases particularly in areas such as chronic pain, neurotrauma, neuroinfectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and brain health through collaborative research. Our department is committed to innovative translational research, spanning the spectrum from genes and molecules to systems and human conditions through existing expertise and collaborations. Our department provides access to state-of-the-art facilities and supports faculty development. You'll benefit from rich scientific interactions through UTMB's centers and institutes, notably the Moody Brain Health Institute, Sealy Institute for Drug Discovery, Galveston National Laboratory, Institute for Translational Sciences home of UTMB's Clinical and Translational Science Award, and several clinical departments as well as participation in the Gulf Coast Consortia. The planned new Translational Pain Research and Intervention Center provides additional opportunities for growth and development. We also have a track record of excellence in interdisciplinary education of graduate, medical, and post-doctoral trainees. The Neuroscience Graduate Program based in the department is the first PhD program in neuroscience in Texas.
