Job description

The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine (U of A-CVM), located in Oro Valley, Arizona, invites applications for a faculty position focused on teaching veterinary theriogenology within the Doctor of Medicine (DVM) program. We are seeking a veterinarian with clinical and instructional experience in large animal veterinary theriogenology to design coursework and lead discussion primarily in the theriogenology/endocrinology course. Additional similar contributions would be anticipated in relevant topics across the pre-clinical curriculum. In addition, this faculty member will guide the development and delivery of large animal portions of the longitudinal Clinical Skills curriculum for first and second year veterinary students through active learning and case-based instruction.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure and selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine is shaping the future of veterinary professionals by preparing graduates to tackle today’s challenges confidently. By emphasizing competency-based, hands-on, student-centered learning, the college has become a national leader in veterinary medical education.

  • Design, develop, and deliver veterinary theriogenology content for the systems-based Cycle of Life (theriogenology/endocrinology) course with emphasis on large animal reproduction. Similar smaller contributions anticipated within other courses (both foundational and elective) where appropriate across the DVM curriculum.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty and instructional technicians to develop, refine, and deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences in theriogenology.
Partner with Clinical Skills team members (faculty and staff) in the design, development, delivery, and refinement of large animal experiences in the Clinical Skills courses within the pre-clinical veterinary medical doctorate curriculum which are focused on general day-one ready skillsets not related to theriogenology.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills and assess student learning through commitment to objective structured clinical exams (OSCEs): develop rubrics for and launch assessments of hands-on skills as opportunities to “check in” with students and provide constructive feedback on opportunity areas for growth.
  • Collaborate with faculty leading organ-system block courses to ensure integration of the clinical skills curriculum across the continuum of the program and deliver curriculum content to veterinary students within the CVM vision of inclusive, evidence-based Team-Based Learning and Peer Instruction pedagogy.
  • Provide regular out-of-class support through office hours, mentoring, and scheduled meetings to assist a diverse student body in achieving learning outcomes.
  • Mentor and support students as a faculty advisor for student clubs, fostering professional growth and engagement.
  • Participate actively in the CVM and university communities through engagement in shared governance, advisory committees, curriculum improvement, and relevant academic or professional societies.
