The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering program at YorkCollege of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track(open rank) Professor of Biomedical Engineering position beginningin the Fall 2027 semester, coinciding with the arrival of the firstclass of students for our new Biomedical Engineering program. Theoverall department houses approximately 300 undergraduates, elevenfull-time faculty members, and five part-time and full-time staffmembers. The ABET-accredited programs in our department arecharacterized as hands-on with small class sizes and extensivestudent/faculty interactions. Students in the engineeringdepartments participate in design/build/test projects throughoutthe curriculum, culminating with a yearlong Capstone Design projectthat requires a functioning prototype. This includes severalcourses in our state-of-the-art Materials Science and FluidMechanics laboratories. A keystone of the York College engineeringprograms is that our students participate in two semesters ofengineering work in an industry setting as part of our requiredco-operative learning program prior to graduation. This gives ourstudents valuable experience that they can then apply in theirclassroom learning.
For this position, we seek candidates that are eager to teachundergraduates in a student-centered, project-based learningenvironment. Applicants with a desire to utilize their knowledgeand skills in mentoring undergraduates, conducting research withundergraduates, and teaching introductory engineering coursesshould apply. Expertise across all areas of biomedical engineeringis valued, however, knowledge of quantitative physiology andbioinstrumentation are especially valued.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduatefoundational and biomedical engineering courses throughout the falland spring semesters. Additionally, the successful candidate willbe expected to advise undergraduate students regarding their coursecurriculum and on career matters; perform service to thedepartment, college, and/or community; and show the potential forresearch work that can involve undergraduate students. Thesuccessful candidate will also help develop and refine the courseswithin the new Biomedical Engineering program.
Applicants must have an Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering orMechanical Engineering or a closely related field by the start dateof the appointment.
Further qualifications include the interest and ability to teachundergraduate engineering courses in the area of bioinstrumentationand quantitative physiology. Top candidates will demonstrate thepotential for outstanding teaching, and those candidates with priorteaching experience are highly valued. Strong communication skills,the ability to work with undergraduate students, and ability toteach in a project-based setting are essential.
