Concordia University is needing an Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Art who wants to be a part of this mission. The main campus (and this role) is located in Seward, Nebraska. Position Purpose

Responsibilities will include teaching visual arts, with a focus on program and curriculum development in drawing, painting, and two-dimensional design for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University. This position will advise and mentor students, as well as participate in marketing and recruitment initiatives for the Department of Art, as assigned by the Department Chair. This is a full-time position with full-time benefits package. Must be 19 years or older to apply. The preferred start date of this faculty position is July/August 2027 at the beginning of the 2027-28 Academic Year.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in studio art, adapting to the needs of the Department of Art. The ideal candidate should be open to instructing a variety of media and closely related art courses that align with their qualifications. Preferred teaching areas include drawing, painting, integrated materials, and two-dimensional design.
  • Develop courses and lessons that explore the intersection between faith and learning.
  • Engage in departmental planning, course and program assessment, curriculum development, student advising, and assistance with student recruitment.
  • Mentor students involved in studio research.
  • Provide leadership for student internships and job opportunities, including maintaining and establishing contacts in business and industry.
  • Work with colleagues from multiple departments to serve the university.
  • Actively pursue scholarly research activities that are mutually beneficial.
  • Work with other faculty in the department to ensure that art facilities are fully operational with proper supplies and teaching tools.
  • Manage and maintain supplies needed for the program, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to enthusiastically embrace the mission and vision of Concordia University, Nebraska.
  • Work with colleagues from multiple departments to serve the university.
  • Other faculty duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education-

  • Terminal degree (M.F.A.) in visual art or a closely related field preferred. Candidates who have considerable experience and who agree to pursue a terminal degree will be considered.

Experience-

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, preferably at the community college or university level.
  • Familiar with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, best teaching and administrative practices, or a record of excellence in teaching.
  • Desire to develop professional relationships with students in which the faculty member is seen as an instructor, mentor, and advisor.
  • A candidate who is an active Christian is required. Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod membership preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge and experience with media, equipment, visual communication, studio workflows, design fundamentals, art theory and art history.

Proficiencies-

  • Proficient in the use of technology, software applications including Blackboard, Banner, Adobe Products, and related applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing necessary for teaching.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks on sometimes short deadlines.

  • Should promptly report any security concerns or incidents to designated personnel.
  • Maintain security and patching of personal devices connected to the institutional email.
  • Maintain high standards for institutional, staff, faculty, employee, and financial data used for business operations.

  • Active membership in a Christian congregation is required. Lutheran Church Missouri Synod membership preferred.
