The Department of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix seeks to hire an assistant, associate or full professor. This position reports directly to the department chair.
The Department of Basic Medical Sciences and the College of Medicine – Phoenix is undergoing significant strategic expansion in the research enterprise. The department is recruiting new tenure‑track faculty at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor to complement and enhance the current cadre of highly innovative, collegial, collaborative and well‑funded faculty. The research foci will strengthen existing strengths in neuroscience, cancer, immune metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Through discovery, education and service, BMS faculty strive to be leaders in their areas of scholarship. Our blended faculty creates a unique environment to perform cutting‑edge, innovative, collaborative and interdisciplinary research that investigates fundamental biological questions and seeks solutions to challenges in cancer, immune metabolic and cardiovascular, as well as neurological diseases. Our team collaborates with clinical researchers to develop novel diagnostics, therapies and preventive measures. BMS faculty are engaged in medical and graduate education by developing, delivering and assessing curricula and conducting educational scholarship to support the college’s educational mission.
This position includes overseeing and conducting an independent research program, collaborating with other faculty, publishing findings in peer‑reviewed journals, securing extramural funding, and undertaking service duties such as committee participation, task‑force coordination, and other departmental operations. The successful candidate will attend faculty, lab and subgroup meetings and contribute meaningfully to research projects that lead to independence and collaboration.
The successful candidate will fulfill all faculty responsibilities within the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, actively participate in teaching and scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. If selected for a career‑track appointment, the appointment will not be eligible for tenure.
