Job summary

The University of Mississippi School of Law invites applications for up to two tenure-track professors to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year. Appointments will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor depending on experience, with emphasis on Torts or Civil Procedure.

We welcome candidates who can teach 1L and Bar-tested subjects, including Criminal Law, Family Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and Business Law, and who can expand offerings in Health Law and Employment Law.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement and teaching excellence is desirable.
  • A record of published or accepted law review articles is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in assigned subjects at the law school.
  • Engage in scholarly research and creative activities.
  • Provide service and participate in governance within the law school.

Job Description

Tenure Track Faculty members perform the functions of teaching, research or creative activities, and service and are assigned to an academic unit appropriate for their Discipline descriptor. Tenure Track Faculty members are usually hired as assistant professors and enter the tenure track. For example, an assistant professor must serve a probationary period of five years and be reviewed for tenure during his or her sixth year of continuous employment at the University. Tenure Track Faculty members may be hired, particularly at the associate and full ranks, with a reduction in the tenure probationary period, as explained in the Tenure Policy. Tenure Track Faculty members at the Associate and Full ranks are full members of the Graduate Faculty, while those at the Assistant rank are Associate Members of the Graduate Faculty.

Qualifications
Job Responsibilities

A candidate must have a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school, or equivalent international degree, and a commitment to teaching in an environment dedicated to excellence in teaching and mentoring of students. All applicants should have a distinguished academic background, and either demonstrated promise or a record of excellence in both scholarship and teaching. The most competitive candidates will have a record of published or accepted law review articles or equivalents and some record demonstrating potential for excellence in teaching.
