Job description

Position Overview

The Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy at High Point University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month promotion path (non-tenure track) faculty position. The principal responsibilities of this role include teaching PharmD students, contributing to scholarship, and providing service to the school, university, and the broader High Point community. Upon program maturity, the estimated distribution of effort will be 60–80% teaching, 10–30% service, and 10–15% scholarship. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants with areas of expertise or interest within pharmaceutical sciences are welcome to apply. Candidates with experience in drug development areas such as Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, pharmaceutics, manufacturing, compounding, or pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics are especially encouraged.

Qualifications
  • Education: Pharm.D., M.D., or Ph.D. in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, physiology, toxicology, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, or related biomedical science field is required.
  • Experience and Training: Postdoctoral experience and strong academic credentials in areas relevant to pharmacy (e.g., pharmaceutics, pharmacology, biochemistry or related biomedical science) is strongly preferred; medical or pharmacy academic teaching experience is also strongly preferred, and priority will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience in such settings.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to multi‑task and work cooperatively with others.
Essential Functions
  • Develop, coordinate, and teach content within the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy integrated curriculum as appointed by the Department Chair; develop and offer an elective course that corresponds with the expertise area(s) as needed.
  • Utilize ExamSoft or other software to conduct all School of Pharmacy assessments.
  • Provide mentorship and advisement for students as appointed by the Dean’s Office and Department Chair.
  • Communicate teaching and scholarship activities through frequent and effective communication with the Department Chair.
  • Contribute to new knowledge through scholarship in the individual’s field of study or Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL).
  • Integrate and enhance collaborations among clinical sciences and basic sciences in scholarship, education, and service.
  • Advance the service missions of the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy and High Point University to meet community needs; act as a representative and advocate for the department, school, and university.
  • Actively participate in admissions interviews and committees within the Department, School of Pharmacy, and University.
  • Participate in professional and governmental organizations as approved by the Department Chair.
  • Abide by University and School of Pharmacy policies.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences.
