Job summary

Fairweather in Anchorage, Alaska is seeking an Asset Integrity Engineer to lead day-to-day mechanical integrity at onshore/offshore facilities, and investigate ILI-related integrity concerns. You will ensure equipment compliance with OSHA and company policies, and drive RBI-based programs.

The role requires strong technical expertise in corrosion, integrity management, and abnormal event investigations, with significant travel to field sites across Alaska.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Asset Integrity Engineer position will lead efforts in managing day-to-day mechanical integrity issues at onshore and offshore facilities including investigating systemic integrity concerns associated with the in-line inspection (ILI) of pipeline systems. The Asset Integrity Engineer position is responsible for maintaining equipment in accordance with applicable local, state, federal and company policies and regulations.

This position is located in Anchorage, Alaska, but includes significant travel to the field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Promote and lead in the implementation of policies and procedures, including safety, health, environment, process, people, and planning;
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal and process safety in words, actions, decisions, and expectations of others;
  • Facilitate a zero-incident culture, where there is no harm to people, no damage to the environment, and no one will be subject to unnecessary risk;
  • Set an example for all employees by demonstrating commitment to the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Security Policies;
  • Develop and follow OSA/OSL standards and guidelines that meet applicable regulatory and stakeholder requirements for anomaly investigation activities based on ILI reports;
  • Develop assessment program performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and knowledge transfer;
  • Continuously improve business processes by efficiently applying Risk Based Inspection (RBI) philosophies;
  • Establish RBI and associated methodologies in achieving safe operations of equipment and meeting production targets;
  • Ensure mechanical integrity program adheres to the requirements of OSHA 1910.119 Process Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals;
  • Develop, document, and maintain a working knowledge of integrity threats related to specific pipeline and facility systems and assessment data to be used in the development of short term and long-term rehabilitation activities and plans;
  • Initiate and participate in chemical evaluations that impact mechanical integrity of the operating asset;
  • Maintain Project Facilities asset integrity;
  • Maintain pressure equipment integrity management system;
  • Maintain integrity procedures and processes to support Asset Integrity Management System;
  • Participate in integrity related failure investigations and root cause analyses;
  • Compliance management of static equipment integrity requirements and able to maintain and report key performance indicators;
  • KPI reporting and development of performance metrics for mechanical integrity;
  • Ensure regulatory and process compliance of pipeline integrity assessment and rehabilitation documentation for all operated systems;
  • Act as a focal point for co-ordination of pressure equipment PM deferrals and waivers;
  • Manage pressure equipment temporary repairs, including administration of temporary repairs register;
  • Fitness for Service evaluation and assessments (pressure equipment including pipelines, piping and PSVs); and
  • Participate in Criticality Assessments to ensure critical equipment is identified and that their performance standards are developed to ensure their integrity and testing requirement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience;
  • Has clearly demonstrated strong technical competence;
  • Ability to work within a diverse cultural environment;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal / teambuilding skills; and
  • Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills.

Skills/ Technical Competencies:

  • A relevant engineering degree preferably in Corrosion Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy;
  • Experience in Integrity Management, Risk Based Inspection and In-Service Inspection;
  • Thorough understanding of defect assessment techniques in accordance with relevant codes / standards and API 579;
  • Thorough knowledge of pressure vessel and pipe work design and inspection codes of practice;
  • Knowledge of related standards / regulatory requirements / recommended practices that include API RP 571 Damage Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry, API RP 970 Corrosion Control Documents, API 580 Risk Based Inspection, and API 581 Risk-Based Inspection Methodology;
  • Plant inspection or API certification, with associated experience;
  • Experience evaluating damage mechanisms for equipment including pressure vessels, pressure piping, storage tanks, heat exchangers, heaters, and specialized equipment;
  • Extensively trained and formally qualified with broad experience in mechanical integrity & corrosion management;
  • Strong leadership skills and proactive personality traits, capable of leading development and implementation of innovative programs;
  • Able to interact directly with Operations management to achieve timely, coordinated actions necessary to assure mechanical integrity;
  • Lead / responsible for close out of mechanical integrity challenges, including co-ordination of asset integrity management activities;
  • Experience in implementation of effective anomaly management systems & Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) programmers;
  • Expertise in development and optimization of risk based long term integrity planning for fixed assets;
  • Knowledge in developing written schemes of examination for piping and static equipment;
  • Experienced in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and RBI software; and
  • In-depth knowledge / experience of codes and standards (NACE / API / ASME / ASTM / PHMSA, etc.) relevant to the work scope.
