Job summary

Sycamore Springs, part of Lifepoint Health, in Lafayette, IN, is seeking an Assessment Specialist on a PRN schedule to join our behavioral health team and help deliver compassionate, high-quality care to our communities.

You will facilitate responses for services, perform initial assessments, document symptoms and needs, support LOC determinations with physicians, and ensure proper preadmission and insurance precertification processes while upholding EMTALA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work or counseling is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility with adults and adolescents preferred.
  • Current unencumbered clinical social work or counseling license per state guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates response to a request for services, including initial response, assessment and referral.
  • Conducts initial evaluation, documents symptoms, functioning, and needs for LOC determination.
  • Provides information to MD for LOC determination with clear communication.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service to patients, physicians, visitors and coworkers.
  • Maintains preadmission and admission paperwork and completes precertification with insurers.

How you'll contribute

An Assessment Specialist who excels in this role:

  • Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, and referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow up activity.
  • Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
  • Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all precertification with insurance companies.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a Master's degree in social work or counseling (required). Additional requirements include:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Prior experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility working with adult and adolescent patients preferred. Must have strong clinical assessment skills.
  • Current unencumbered clinical social work, counseling license, or per state of practice guidelines.
