Thorlabs is hiring an Assembly Technician Level I in Jessup, MD to assemble laser system components, test data, and prep products for shipment. You will work with electronics, optics, and fiber assemblies, following detailed instructions and cleanroom standards.

Prior exposure to soldering and crimping is a plus. The role supports a variety of precision assembly tasks with accuracy in documentation and ERP usage, while growing within a fast-paced photonics environment.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of experience in electronics, fiber optics, photonics or related industry or specialized training.
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office is required.
• Experience with optical fibers and measurement instruments is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Assemble electrical, mechanical, and optical components per work instructions.
• Perform basic soldering and crimping per procedures and standards.
• Operate sensitive equipment (fiber splicers, optical test instruments, alignment tools) after training.
• Maintain accurate production test data and ERP records.
• Follow drawings, documents, and cleanroom protocols; ensure high cleanliness in work areas.
• Provide feedback for process improvements and meet output/quality goals.

The Assembly Technician Level I is responsible for the assembly of laser systems and accessories.. Core responsibilities include electrical, mechanical, and optical fiber assembly; generating production test data; preparing products for shipment; and maintaining accurate records within the ERP system. This role requires the ability to follow detailed assembly instructions, while properly using sensitive instruments and tools to perform precise assembly tasks and measurements.

• Build electrical, mechanical, and optical assemblies according to work instructions.
• Perform basic electronic soldering and crimping tasks in accordance with documented procedures and industry standards
• Operate sensitive production equipment such as fiber splicers, optical test instruments, and alignment tools after training and according to documented procedures.
• Handle and assemble intricate opto-mechanical components and assemblies, including fragile optics and/or optical fibers.
• Perform laser and accessory system alignments following documented procedures.
• Maintain data systems to record and report test results.
• Follow work instructions, engineering drawings, and other production documentation for complex systems involving electronics, mechanical assemblies, and fiber components.
• Follow cleanroom protocols and maintain a high standard of cleanliness in work areas.
• Provide continuous improvement feedback on procedures and processes.
• Meet output and quality goals.

Experience:

• 0-3 years of experience in electronics, fiber optics, photonics or related industry, or specialized training in these fields
• Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office is required.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent (e.g, GED)

Specialized knowledge and skills that are desired but not required:

• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a collaborative, team environment and comply with high-quality standards.
• Familiarity with soldering and crimping for electrical assembly is a plus.
• Experience with optical fibers and optical measurement instruments is a plus
• Knowledge of inventory management, shipping/receiving practices, and ERP systems preferred.

The estimated hourly rate for this role is $ 19.00 to $ 26.00 per hour
