Fort Defiance Industries (FDI)

Job Title: Assembly Technician

Reports to: VP of Operations

Job Classification: Non‑Exempt

Travel Required: None

Loudon, TN-based Fort Defiance Industries (FDI) is a growing engineering and manufacturing company. FDI is seeking an Assembly Technician to support the production of existing products.

Position Summary:

The assembly technician assembles medical devices, kits, other equipment, and spray coats components. The position includes the following responsibilities.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Understands, and follows work instructions and established processes to build assemblies and subassemblies including installation and wiring of internal electrical components, sensors, switches, pressurized hoses, NPT and compression fittings, solenoid valves, and programmable logic controllers among other items.

  • Follows established quality procedures regarding process and workmanship

  • Prepares and spray‑coats medical device components in accordance with work instructions and quality standards, ensuring specified coverage, finish

  • Cleans surfaces and parts as needed during assembly

  • Ensures specifications are met using pressure test and visual inspection to check for defects

  • Reports/records deficiencies using specified quality control procedures

  • Documents items and actions per FDI, ISO and FDA requirements

  • Visually inspects inventory and communicates low stock level

  • Packs items to prepare for shipping

  • Identifies areas for improvement and implements

  • Performs medical device factory acceptance testing following established procedures

  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Working Conditions

This work is performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise levels up to 110 decibels. The job requires the ability to both sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Machinery/Equipment/Tools

Regular use of standard measurement tools, specialized compression fitting instruments, drills, basic hand tools, electrical hand tools, pneumatic tools, and multimeter. Occasional use of pallet jacks, and forklift (as needed/if trained)

Chemicals

Occasionally works with and exposed to Isopropyl Alcohol, acetone, lacquer thinner, Loctite, tri sodium phosphate.
