Job summary

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston is seeking an Assembly Technician to join the Operations department in Kinston, NC. You will perform production assembly tasks on electronic and mechanical subassemblies, following diagrams and using required tools, jigs and measuring instruments.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 2 years of aviation production experience, and flexibility for shifts/overtime. SAP and Excel familiarity help support accurate data and process control on the shop floor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in aviation production or equivalent.
  • Experience with drilling tools, templates and fasteners.
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift including overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and install to quality requirements using blueprints and work orders.
  • Perform continuity checks and may conduct quality inspections.
  • Set up and perform manual and automated assembly operations; use tools and equipment as required.
  • Complete data gathering transactions to progress assembly and document discrepancies.
  • Report issues and assist in training and mentoring other employees.

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, specializing in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Your Challenges

Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables.

  • Works from diagrams and drawings, makes initial layouts, and uses hand and/or power tools, jigs, and saws.
  • Makes continuity checks on work in process and completed. May conduct quality inspections on processing lines in accordance with quality specifications.
  • May disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental or prototype assemblies and sub-assemblies according to specifications and under simulated conditions.

The Company will provide appropriate assistance in job training to enable employees to perform all necessary job functions including the following:

  • Work with blueprints, changes, specifications, work orders, etc. to assemble and install to quality requirements parts and assemblies.
  • Complete required data gathering transactions to facilitate assembly progression.
  • Setup and perform all manual and automated assembly operations, and portable machine functions required to accomplish assignments.
  • Perform any and all required pickup, rework, fabrication, change in corporation, functional testing or check during or after final assembly and/or assembly progression.
  • Move and/or obtain correct parts, materials, tools, assemblies, etc.
  • Use precision measuring instruments required to accomplish work assignments.
  • Report and/or investigate job handicaps such as: errors in parts, assembly procedures, tools, sequences, etc.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g., where applicable, replacing machine filters, changing standard light bulbs on machines and equipment, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
  • Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across isle, using shop assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation. On an exception basis, move product to the next operation within a building.
  • Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training, coaching and assisting other employees.
  • Document any discrepancies according to specification, process, and procedure.
  • Trains to become MVP qualified.
  • In addition, each employee may be asked, on occasion, to complete other duties and responsibilities as required by leadership. Training and certification will be provided for the additional work when required.

Qualified Experience and Training

Required

  • 2 years’ minimum experience in aviation production or equivalent
  • Previous experience with drilling tools, templates, drilling machines, fasteners, and torquing tools
  • Must be able and willing to work any shift to include working overtime as needed

Preferred

  • 5+ years minimum experience in aviation production
Your Boarding Pass Education

  • High School Diploma/GED or Work Keys Assessment completion
  • The ability to successfully complete the following training provided by Airbus after recruitment: o Health & Safety o General aircraft familiarization o Quality Training

  • Carrying: Weekly able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: Weekly able to lift documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Weekly able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Weekly able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: 5% able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.
  • Must not be afraid of heights and can work on elevated platforms as high as 40 feet in the air.
  • PPE required: Safety glasses, bump caps and safety-toed shoes must be worn on manufacturing floor
