Job summary

Rock West Composites is seeking an Assembly Technician in San Diego, California. The role involves performing a variety of manufacturing operations essential to completing sub-assemblies and final assemblies for composites and sheet metal aircraft components. Ideal candidates will have at least 6 years of experience in assembly and be able to read blueprints. The compensation range for this position is between $28 and $31 per hour, alongside several benefits including 100% employer-paid medical and dental coverage.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge in bonding various materials such as composites, metals, and laminates for assemblies.
  • Experience in aligning components and sub-assemblies on jigs and fixtures.
  • Ability to perform part-fitting operations including filing, sawing, and riveting.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble composite and sheet metal components according to blueprints.
  • Mix and apply 2-part adhesive for sealing and edge bonding.
  • Perform various manufacturing operations to complete sub-assemblies.

Skills

Ability to read and interpret aircraft blueprints
Experience working with mylar overlays
Minimum 6 years of experience in composites and/or sheet metal assembly
Proficient in using drill motors and standard hand tools
Knowledge of aircraft hardware, materials, and processes
Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
Bi-Lingual Spanish preferred

Assembly Technician

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego (Otay Mesa) Aircraft Facility and reports to the Production Lead.

Position Summary

Performs a variety of manufacturing operations essential to completing sub-assemblies and final assemblies for composites and sheet metal aircraft components while maintaining all engineering requirements and quality standards.

Essential Functions
  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and Manufacturing Plans to assemble composite and sheet metal components.
  • Bond various materials such as composites, metals, and laminates for assemblies, parts, components, and structures.
  • Align components and sub-assemblies on jigs and fixtures.
  • Layout, drill, form, and trim aircraft component parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Perform part‑fitting operations including filing, sawing, burring, trimming, drilling, reaming, and riveting.
  • Mix and apply 2-part adhesive for sealing and edge bonding.
  • Familiar with manufacturing execution systems for electronic buy‑off and status of work.
Non‑Essential Functions
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft blueprints.
  • Experience working with mylar overlays.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in composites and/or sheet metal assembly.
  • Experience/expertise using drill motors, rivet guns, die grinders, cleco pliers, countersink cages, and standard hand tools and measurement equipment including calipers and micrometers.
  • Knowledge of aircraft hardware, materials, and processes.
  • Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Bi‑Lingual Spanish preferred.
  • Education: High School Diploma.
  • US Person under 22 CFR 120 (due to ITAR Restrictions).

Compensation

The hourly range for this position falls within $28 and $31. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
