The Assembly Night Production Supervisor

The Assembly Night Production Supervisor has broad responsibility for all aspects of night-shift assembly operations across all product-line work centers at the St. Louis Membrane Solutions manufacturing facility. Our Membrane Solutions facility assembles, tests, and ships air separation modules ranging from 1" to 8" in diameter for Aerospace (OBIGGS), Nitrogen, Dehydration, and Process gas applications. Assembly is the final production step before product reaches the customer, and quality escapes carry direct customer, contractual, and safety consequences. Our ideal candidate has excellent leadership abilities coupled with a mechanical aptitude, excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills. In this key role, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating a team of approximately 20–24 production technicians and Team Leads on a day-shift rotation, with overall accountability for safe, efficient, and high-quality operations, including productivity, employee training and development, engagement, and employee relations.

What’s In It for You
  • Affordable Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance (day 1 of employment)
  • 401k with 100% vested company core and match
  • Paid Vacation, holidays + sick time
  • Paid Parental leave (Up to 4 weeks for both parents)
  • Backup Child and Adult Care benefit
  • Adoption assistance
  • Flexible spending accounts (medical, dependent daycare)
  • Life Insurance (AD&D- Paid for by Air Products)
  • Supplemental AD&D Legal Plan & Identity theft coverage
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Program)

NATURE AND SCOPE

Customer-facing quality ownership. Assembly is the last point of control before product ships to the customer. Modules are built to rigorous specifications for safety-critical applications. The supervisor is accountable for ensuring build quality, test integrity, and documentation accuracy within the assigned work center.

Product-line-specific process knowledge. The assembly operation is organized into dedicated work centers by product line, each with distinct build processes, test requirements, cycle times, and customer specifications. The supervisor must develop deep familiarity with the assembly methods, test protocols, and quality documentation specific to their assigned product line.

Team development in a scaling environment. The St. Louis site has grown approximately 67% in workforce over the past two years. The incumbent is responsible for developing working team leads into effective frontline leaders who can balance production duties with team coordination, and for building a pipeline of capable technicians who can absorb increasing throughput demands.

Shift coordination and handoff discipline. The supervisor is accountable for structured, high-quality shift handoffs to the night-shift supervisor, ensuring clear communication of production status, equipment issues, safety concerns, quality holds, and in-process work.

Cross-functional interface. The role requires active coordination with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, and Continuous Improvement teams to resolve production issues, support corrective actions, and support new product introductions. The supervisor must work collaboratively across the business with minimum direction from management.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety of all assembly personnel during the night shift by demonstrating leadership in the Basic Safety Process (BSP), enforcing EHS standards, leading pre-shift safety communications, and serving as the senior assembly safety authority on site during nights — including leading emergency and incident response.
  • Ensure product quality and AS9100 compliance across all assembly work centers during nights by maintaining rigorous build quality, test integrity, and documentation standards, making quality disposition decisions within defined authority, and documenting issues for day-shift root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Deliver night-shift assembly output that meets the production schedule by directing operations across all work centers, making real-time prioritization decisions across product lines, coordinating work team scheduling and job assignments, and escalating constraints to the Production Manager for day-shift follow-up.
  • Develop and build capability in the night-shift production team by setting performance expectations and coaching to get results, developing working team leads into effective frontline leaders, supporting onboarding and skills development, consistently applying plant policies, and ensuring night-shift team development keeps pace with day-shift standards.
  • Execute structured and high-quality shift handoffs in both directions by ensuring complete communication of production status, equipment issues, safety concerns, quality holds, and in-process work when receiving from day shift and when handing off back.
  • Support production growth and new product introductions by integrating new build processes and product variants into the night-shift operating rhythm and scaling team staffing and skills to match throughput requirements.
  • Drive compliance with quality management systems by ensuring AS9100 and ISO 9001 adherence across all assembly work centers during nights and supporting audit readiness through consistent documentation practices.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, and productivity and supporting Stable Operations and Waste Reduction initiatives.
Required Skills / Abilities
  • Excellent face-to-face and written communication skills (Candidate must communicate effectively with operators, maintenance personnel, technical support personnel, management, and all internal and external stakeholders)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • A keen drive to improve operational execution and maintain high work standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A safety focus, with a full understanding of the applicability of Government EHS regulations and the Company’s Global EHS policies and procedures to the facility and workers.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and the requirements of ISO 9001–2015 and how they apply to production processes is preferred but is not required.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with familiarity in Lean, Root Cause Analysis, and other CI tools is required.
Minimum Hiring Requirements

A minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing and Supervisory experience are required. Excellent people skills and a passion for excellence are required. An Associates degree in a related industry is preferred but is not required. A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. SAP experience is preferred but is not required. Experience in discrete manufacturing or mechanical assembly is preferred but is not required.
