Job Description

The Assembly Mechanic Level 1 is an entry-level position responsible for safely assisting with the assembly of oil-field equipment in a manufacturing environment. This position performs basic assembly tasks using a variety of hand tools, impact wrenches, and other shop equipment while following established work instructions and safety procedures.

The Level I Assembly Mechanic works under the direction of experienced technicians and supervisors to develop mechanical assembly skills and knowledge of oil-field equipment. Attention to detail, willingness to learn, teamwork, and a commitment to workplace safety are essential for success in this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year related work experience - See Preferred Qualifications
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Fluent in English.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1 year of demonstrated experience working with mechanical assembly and or repair to include:

  • Work Instructions or Engineering drawings/specifications
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, machinery, and standard shop assembly tools
  • Hydraulic System familiarity to include pressure release, removal,installation.
  • Calibrated equipment usage, i.e., Torque Wrench, Dial Indicator, Pressure Gauges
COMPUTER SKILLS
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word and E-Mail messaging, and an all-around general knowledge of computer operations is advantageous.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Responsibilities
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of tools and equipment within an MFG facility which produces large, industrial Oil & Gas drilling equipment.
  • Assist in the safe assemble and/or installation of components following established Engineering drawings and procedures to include cleaning, fitting, bolting, threading, aligning, and grinding using various hand tools, pneumatic air tools, jigs, and overhead cranes
  • Interpret and utilize Engineering drawings which provide the specifications, directions and overall layout of the assembled equipment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Work Orders and sequencing of progressive work processes within the Work Order.
  • Identify issues with material or assemblies and communicate potential problems to supervisor or senior team members.
  • Preparation work includes layout of the job, identify and assemble necessary parts and tools, measure and consult Engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards utilizing Lean Manufacturing (5S) principles
  • Inspect all equipment used and perform preventive maintenance checks and services
  • Measure and record technical data as tasks are complete
  • Works overtime and weekend as required
  • Other duties may be assigned to support MFG Shop operations
