BlackSky in Tukwila, WA, is hiring an assembly, integration, and test engineer to support satellite and subsystem testing, develop test setups, and document procedures. This onsite role reports to the Director of Production and requires collaboration with system and hardware engineers to ensure tests meet requirements and quality standards.

Qualified candidates have a BS in engineering, 3 years in production with space hardware, and the ability to travel domestically and internationally. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years in a production environment, preferably with space hardware.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and create harness schematics.
• Experience with end-to-end testing and operations in a hardware setting.
• Domestic and occasional international travel to support launch campaigns.
• U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person.

Responsibilities

• Oversee satellite and subsystem testing including design and execution of test setups.
• Collaborate with engineering and program management to align tests with requirements and schedules.
• Maintain and develop test equipment and fixtures; support troubleshooting during production.
• Develop work instructions and training docs for satellite assemblies.

As an assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the assembly, integration and test of satellites and their subsystems, as well as creation and documentation of test equipment, such as automated racks. You will be responsible for authoring and maintaining test procedures and supporting troubleshooting efforts during production. You’ll work closely with system and hardware engineers to help define requirements and provide feedback to design engineers for test/design for manufacturing (DFT/DFM).

This position reports to the Director, Production and is based out of our Tukwila, WA office. This is onsite position expected to be in the office five days a week.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for satellite and subsystem testing, including the design, development, and execution of test setups, instrumentation, and documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering disciplines and program management to ensure tests align with requirements, schedules, and quality standards.
• Maintain existing automated and manual test equipment and lead the development and implementation of new test setups and/or fixtures.
• Maintain existing satellite and subsystem test harnessing and lead the development and implementation of new harnessing.
• Execute satellite-level tests, support troubleshooting efforts, and resolve stoppages during testing.
• Create work instructions and training documentation for satellite assemblies and subsystems.
• Aid in process improvement projects to streamline test documentation and data, configuration control, and integration operations to optimize test and production quality and efficiency.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a production environment, preferably with space hardware.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and create harness schematics.
• Demonstrated experience with integration, end-to-end testing, and operations.
• Strong understanding of satellite and satellite subsystems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve team and company goals.
• Unwavering attention to detail in a hands-on environment with valuable hardware assets.
• Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally to support launch campaigns.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Person.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in high reliability, safety critical, or regulated environments.
• Experience with Plex or another similar MRP/ERP system.
• Experience with software scheduling and tasking tools, specifically Jira.
• Familiarity with software version control management tools, specifically Git.
• Familiarity with Python and Bash.

The anticipated hourly range for candidates in Tukwila, Washington is $110,000-$130,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on specific background and education. BlackSky is a multi-state employer and this pay scale may not reflect salary ranges in other states or locations outside of Tukwila, WA.
